Today I inked up a new Gama Jumbo pen. I was in Chennai for work and had extra time; so went to Gem and Co. Purchased this black polished ebonite jumbo pen, fitted with Gama broad nib. I eagerly inked it as soon as I reached home. It writes very well. It has a white dot on the cap.

From the neighbouring Oliver pens shop, bought 3 fountain pens and 1 roller ball pen (with a magnetic cap). On dip-testing all are fine writers.

Among the oliver pens, I liked this green oliver eyedropper with golden trims very muchIMG_20210813_183159.thumb.jpg.d6a83a37f983c84f24d74eb7af5c6e0a.jpg.

Sagar, is that the Gama masterpiece? I have one from ages back, that did not have the cap lip ring, this one seems to have it. Will post a pic showing the Deccan alongside the Gama.

@Sagarb@hari317

This one has dimensions and shape comparable to Supreme round-top. I have not seen 'masterpiece' model. Is it bigger than (or different in design) from 'Supreme' round-top?

Actually a year back I had a talk with Pratap, regarding a Gama Supreme. I asked him if he can make a Supreme in black , he denied and told me that only MP comes in black ebonite (in big pen) with white dot. They call it MP now.

I know which Masterpiece you are talking about, that Matt and glossy combination one. I saw four of MPs  in your post in the past😃

That’s true. I own several Masterpieces from Deccan and one from Gama. I just posted a thread on this with pics for you.

Today's pen is Asa 'Crystal' ED, filled with Diamine Florida Blue. When this pen was launched( 2014 probably) as a limited edition and only 50 pieces or something were made. Honestly, I had no interest in oversize or jumbo pen then. I was completely a newbie in this FP world. Naturally this model got discontinued.

Last year I made a request to Subbu if he can turn this out again. I got to know that due to pandemic and staff problems, disruption occurs again and again in his manufacture. Over the time I almost forgot about this .

Two days before I got an unexpected parcel and it was a full of surprise!!! Crystal!

Two differences I have noticed in this edition. First,it came with beak clip which looks much better than the ball end clip in the older editions and second, the section radius got reduced. Its narrowest part is 11 MM and widest part is 13 MM , so it feels very comfortable and helps to write tireless. The finish of the pen is awesome and am enjoying it thoroughly.

I have one of the original LE's of this pen, and yes, it came out in 2014. I loved it when I got it, but it soon got superseded - he has so many good and comfortable pens! Thank you for reminding me of the Crystal. I will ink it up again soon. It has a Conklin nib which was very nice to write with, I don't think I did any tuning of it, ever.

I like the new clip on yours better, too.

a fountain pen is physics in action... Proud member of the SuperPinks

I use this "Tower". Got it from flea market with broken squeeze filler wich I replaced with Pilot Con-40 :). Writes perfect. I'm curious when it could be made. If you know, please, advise.

Started using this Gama Kuyil pen today. Beautiful pen, though I wish it did not had so many lathe marks at the bottom of the barrell.

Kuyil is such a lovely pen. Do you post the cap during writing?

Yes the pen looks so minimalistic and thus beautiful to me.

No, I do not post my pens. I received it yesterday only. Mr.Pratap said that they test the pen with the cap posted and that's why the marks. He even offered to sand the pen again, but this is such a small issue so I told him there was no need for it.

However, the marks are too deep in reality. I don't know how can posting the pen for testing would have caused such deep and permanent marks.

Anyway, the pen writes without any issues. And I love it along with my Gama supreme which I bought last month.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
