Christmas Love From My Family - 3 Bexley Fountain Pens

Recommended Posts

Wife gifted the Bexley Owner's Club 2017 pen (left) in Lapis to me, while my mother in law got me the the other 2, Bexley Poseidon Magnum in Cream and Purple (middle) and the Blue Bamboo Walking Stick (right). Both in medium nib sizes, my favorite.

In the Lapis, I'm running Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue, thanks to an ink exchange with FPN member richofthetower.

The Creme and Purple is running J. Herbin Violette Pensee ink cartridge and the Blue Bamboo is running J. Herbin Vert Pre ink cartridge.

I also got gifted some Rhodia pads and J. Herbin ink cartridges - Vert Pre, Orange Indien, and Eclat de Saphir.

My brother sent me a vert nice custom printed stationary set with matching envelopes. Already tested it out for fountain pen friendliness and happy to report that it is very friendly. From a company called American Stationary.

My mom sent me some Dollar General pads that were made in indonesia. I was a little skeptical, but it turns out that the "cheap" $1 pads held up to all my currently inked pens! Going to go to the local Dollar General and see if they have any and if so, I'm buying up the whole lot.

Anyway, it was a great Christmas pen haul! Hope others had good luck in their holiday on the pen front!

Wonderful! I have been curious about Bexley's quality and have looked at the Walking Stick bamboos on eBay. How is the clip and trim quality? Congrats on the additions!

The clip is firm, but hs plenty of spring in it, so is very useful. I like the way that it has small upwards tilt at the end of it, making it easy for the clip to slide across the fabric of a shirt or pen case. The trim on all the Bexley's I have have always ben top quality. I've never had any plating issues, or similar things. I just cannot get enough of them, honestly and as funds allow I'll keep acquiring! :D

That white/purple is a massdrop special, is it not?

I did a quick massdrop search and did not see this particular pen, but I'm sure it could have been possible. I asked where she got them and I was told she talked to Howard directly and got them.

Lucky you. As a Bexley fan I'm green with envy. I have 7 Bexleys and have found their quality is exemplary. Both the Walking Stick and Poseidon are for sale on ebay direct from Howard Levy. I also use the Dollar General pads for general writing purposes. They are a really cheap solution for those purposes. They do however sometimes vary in quality from batch to batch, but generally are very good. But hey for $1 they can't be beat.

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav

If one wanted to do this, one could just use the "About Me" field which appears to be unlimited in size.  And if a bunch of people wanted to cooperate, the Member Title field (or signature) could be used to this end - "Ink Giver" (or some such) could be used by those with inks to give...  No software edits required.

I suppose the update issue could be mitigated.  One would post a link in signature, to the particular part of your profile where you list the inks that you're willing to post samples to others, gratis.  But looking at profiles, I suspect that would require an edit to the board's software, potentially a nontrivial task.

I read your idea as getting willing givers to publicly register as members of a set of heterogenous servers, in a system in which a client would explicitly select an available server from a list, to which he/she will then send a request privately and asynchronously. Request handling in the system is unmanaged, and individual requests are handled by the targeted servers completely independently on each other. I think the model is fine, although there are some operational concerns you may want to

First thought on the method/system of ink sharing: Think the best way, to begin with, is to follow the way of the US thread: offer up a (small) list of inks you are willing to PIF, to whoever expresses interest. Write clearly in the "mission statement" how it works, with a tiny "quid pro quo" that even a struggling student can comply with, i.e. post your opinion and a writing sample, with option of a full review if desired.   So yours truly might say: "I'm offering up samples of D
