OMG 😲 I am finding difficulty describing what I just saw! These are by far the best pictures I have ever come across.

Poor souls who either don't yet have a 149 or a broad nib. If these don't spark a sense of extreme desire resulting in an impulse purchase, I don't know what would.

Made me want to visit my pens early this morning :)

These photos are getting jazzier and jazzier. (That's probably not a real word, bit it fits my thoughts late at night.)

Tom, keep up the great work. It's worth burning through my monthly mobile data allotment to see your photos on my phone.

Hi Tom,

always I see your brilliant pictures of your beasts I cannot resist to grab the mine and make a note. OBBB nib is great in every way.

When Tom started sharing his wonderful photos I switched to an unlimited data plan for my iPhone.

Lovely work. Thank you.

What a fun thread! I was away at a conference, just returned after eight days, and am now scaring my co-workers with laughter at Tom Kellie's "MB Snow Rakes"!

Come to the San Francisco area. Lots of food, culture, wine and art. The last snow we had was not too bad -only an inch or so... in 1976.

Hah! In the 1990's, the first time I visited a good friend who had moved to Oakland, and it was cold enough to frost the nails on the underside of the attic roof of the house where I was staying, and it snowed in Berkeley.

I totally love the area; just visited him up in Napa last summer. It is high on the list of places I'd like to live, though the real estate prices these days are, ah, eyebrow-raising.

The house next door to me is for sale. How many bedrooms you need? Snowed in 1988. Before that in the 1940s, I think.

Heh. I have at least another 15 years before I can think of moving. By then I should need eight bedrooms, six of them for the pens and books.

Tom, I just finished going through the entire thread tonight enjoying every single picture. Absolutely delightful!!

My last Montblanc I got is also a red gold 149 (F) so this was even sweeter. Maybe an OBBB nib in the horizon for me.

Thanks so much.

Nice photos. This is so beyond cool.

Your image "OBBB at its best" gives me the chills.

I also learned a new word today:

A triskelion is a motif consisting of a triple spiral exhibiting rotational symmetry. The spiral design can be based on interlocking Archimedean spirals, or represent three bent human legs.

Congratulations Tom. You finally answered the age old question: which came first, the pen or the egg?

I may have mentioned this earlier, but I think TK is the first to be able to take a picture that fully distinguishes the differences in color between the yellow vs red gold trim. Chapeau!

No matter how I personally try, they end up looking the same pen :/

All these beautiful photos are making me wonder where the Platinum 149 OBBB I ordered two months ago could be. Sent an email to Dennis at La Couronne du Comte, but haven't heard back.

My nibs throughout 2016 would normally take 2 weeks from order date to installation in the boutique here in Dubai.

That 90 Years Anniversary nib for the Skeleton though, it has been 4 weeks and still 'processing'..

Now it is still too early to complain ;)

Oddly enough, the Platinum 149, which was shipped December 9 (I wasn't notified) was to be delivered today, but of course there is no one at the office. No explanation from the tracking why it took so long. Anyway, they will deliver it on Monday, which is great because it's my birthday (also John Hancock's birthday and National Handwriting Day). I wonder what John Hancock would have thought of a 149 with an OBBB nib?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
