Tom, you are my hero. Keep spreading the word of how much fun these nibs are in real life usage and we might have to add scones with jam to the repertoire. Happy new year!

Tom, you are having way too much fun on this thread, as are we.

You've got me regretting not trying the the wide options for longer in the boutique. I write small so I got the fine. It's great, but I always liked a fine italic when they were available (parker). For now, reverse writing on the fine gets me exactly what I wanted, but with a too much feedback.

T H A N K Y O U, Tom.

I am shouting these words from the roof of my snow-covered home in Winnipeg.

Snow that high?

Higher.

I own a roof rake. :(

Like the old song about a sailor who means to retire from the sea, who carries an oar on his shoulder walking inland until nobody recognizes what it is, I someday hope to road trip south from where I live now until I can hold up the scraper section of my roof rake, and not a single soul will recognize it because there's never snow on the roof. In such a place, I might consider settling down after retiring.

-- Joel -- "I collect expensive and time-consuming hobbies."

INK (noun): A villainous compound of tannogallate of iron, gum-arabic and water,

chiefly used to facilitate the infection of idiocy and promote intellectual crime.

Come to the San Francisco area. Lots of food, culture, wine and art. The last snow we had was not too bad -only an inch or so... in 1976.

The house next door to me is for sale. How many bedrooms you need? Snowed in 1988. Before that in the 1940s, I think.

I love you all.

Judging by the Quebec tags in the grocery store parking lot this week, you aren't alone.

Umm.. Hello from Dubai.. where it never, ever snowed. Actually, I don't think it ever dipped below 15° Celsius (60 F)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
