I have not seen anything on the Safari but I noticed that The Goulet Pen Company has the Pacific Al-Star listed in their "coming soon" section for a February release.

The Petrol should follow around April. I guess it will take some time before there will be new official news.

Man, I really like them both!

Haven't had a new Lamy since I can't remember when...

Good morning! I just got an email from Susan at Goulet Pens. They will be receiving their shipment of Lamy Al-Star Pacifics next week! It doesn't appear as though the Lamy Safari's are going to marketed anytime soon, though.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, the OP photo of the pacifica was a bit misleading. Looked a lot more green than it is in real life. I think the pacifica is one of the best Al-Star colours with the chrome nib.

As I am excited for the new Safari I have browsed the internet for informations. I have actually found a picture of the Safari Petrol on the Lamy USA website. In the picture this pen looks amazing 👍🏻

I just bought the Pacific one, and i gotta be honest, for some reason it doesnt seem so pacific in reality. it looks more of a blue green to me.

am i crazy? are my eyes deceiving me? be the judge.

here it is next to the traditional blue one.

The lighting and background could be influencing the photo. Definitely more bluish than green, but less turquoise than expected...

I hope they'll keep producing the Safari in textured finishes and black garments!

I'll have to wait to see the 'Petrol' one in person... I thought I was going to fall in love with the purple one, but after having one in the hands it felt different than the charcoal one. Like if the plastic used was different.

But... Welcome back, Safari of old!

The 2017 Colors have just been leaked on Amazon.co.jp and fontoplumo. The Safari is a dark teal with black accents (name translates to petrol), and the Al-Star is a light blue named "Pacifica". (images below)

In the latter picture looks more turquoise but I guess looking at recent post not as nice sea bluish as hoped for.

I think they should make a limited edition ink to go with the Petrol or teal colored Safari. Maybe do 500 bottles. The aftermath would be interesting.

How about a link? I've been all over the USA Lamy site. Nothing about anything "petrol"'or "2017 colors" comes up. In fact, most of the site's main features return 404 errors.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

These folks hope to see the petrol soon:

The petrol looks like it matches the colors of the Edison Premiere Arctic Currents.

I like the Pacific color. I'm not sold on the Petrol. It has a greenish tint that I am not fond of, kinda like how I dislike Daimine Twilight (though I'm sure that'd appeal MORE to some, not less).

The Petrol looks like a teal version of the Umbra or Charcoal they have now.

I love the somewhat matte/gritty finish on my charcoal Lamy.

It looks like the Petrol Safaris will be out fairly soon. I have noticed that pen retailers are putting out their listings for it and that typically happens within a month of release.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
