Thanks for a great review, Lgsoltek! KWZ Aztek Gold is my all time favorite ink (at least this week)...I just love writing with it and watching the color change. I've had a couple pens loaded with it ever since it came out. What a great time to be into fountain pens with the recent introduction of KWZ and Robert Oster inks...awesome colors and pretty well behaved. Like being in Pen & Ink heaven...as it were.

my first (and uptil now) only IG. Even if only IGL.

Love it though. The colour and the behaviour. Has been in an EDC almost constantly since I got it.

It's one of the few gold or yellow inks I like, because it's dark enough to be really legible.

Thanks for the review. I really need to get a full bottle of it....

How does it perform on cheap paper. I recently got a bottle of Kwz IG blue no 5 , and while I love the color it bleeds on cooy paper. I was hoping for a better performance from an IG.

I don't remember having trouble with Aztec Gold, but it all depends on each paper... The KWZ inks all tend to be fairly wet.

What is the difference between this and the regular ig Gold? I want a legible daily writing applicable, classy looking gold/old sepia color.

It's a bit more golden when it fully oxidizes would be the biggest difference to IG Gold. It is considered a Iron Gall Light (LGL) ink because it does not have as much iron gall component as many of the other KWZ IG inks, but I believe many of the lighter brown KWZ IG inks are not the most concentrated inks in this regard. This will also depend on how wet the pen you are using is, as a very wet pen will probably have the ink oxide to a similar shade to IG Gold overtime. I like them both, need to make Aztec Gold my next fill, though the waitlist keeps growing!!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Great review, the writing is what Ina Ho's label looks like, but it comes out as a green.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
