Then there's Noodler's Nightshade but it's likely more red-leaning that what you're looking for.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Also consider Diamine Bilberry. I made the mistake of putting it and Shigure in identical pens, and was forced to label them to have any idea which was which.

A bit worse than standard ink, but modern IG inks are made for fountain pens so there shouldn't be any major issues. However, if you clean and flush the pen every third fill you should be fine.

As Andy said, they're better than they used to be, but as a rule, I avoid them. If you do want to experiment with one, use it in a dedicated pen that you don't mind losing and as Andy said, keep it well flushed and I'll add: well used. :)

Looking at a writing sample of Aurora Blue I just got (Lamy Safari w/fine) it leans towards purple.

 

Levenger Amethyst is probably too purple for your needs. But there are some great purples. Check the purple/violet color swatch thread for all kinds of purples.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
