El Dorado - Kwzi

As some of you may know Poland is one of biggest exporters of cosmetics, furniture and fruits. But we also have inks. Or, to be more precise, one ink maker - KWZI. Konrad offers handmade inks in more than sixty colors. I believe it's fair to say iron - gall inks were refreshed by him. You can check KWZ website here.

El Dorado is one of two new KWZI inks (the other one being Aztec Gold)

First let's look at the bottle.

The ink is wet and lubricates the nib in a satisfying way. I haven't observed any feathering or bleedthrough. Drying time is reasonable. The main issues some people may have with this ink is the color. It's not practical one, you'll use often. Rather it's one of those fun colors used to doodle or write to a friend. The text written with broader nibs is legible but I can imagine that on some papers and in direct sun the text written with El Dorado won't be perfectly visible. All in all it's nice ink. It has better price than Montblanc Golden Yellow and if you can't find Golden Yellow and consider buying fun ink, El DOrado might be for you.

That is actually quite nice. On the Tomoe, it does look like MB GY but much yellower in the lighter parts; on the Lyreco it looks more like Diamine Yellow with darker shading. Hmm.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

It is a cool name. I'm glad we have Mrs KWZI there, to stop Mr KWZI from naming it Yellow #1. LOL

Hilarious! There is a clever marketer in the mix.

It's funny - using a sample of Aztec Gold (which I LOVE), I really wanted an ink that was Aztec Gold wet, which is different from Aztec Gold dry.

El Dorado looks lovely -- sunny and optimistic and cheerful.

BUT! Now I'm wondering... and going off-topic... maybe you know or Mrs. KWZ will read this: Does KWZ have an Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo equivalent? Bo mam prawie nie Tsuki-yo left i jestem panicking. (Laughing.) I mean, I can pick up the Tsuki-yo the next time I'm in the USA, but I'd like to buy local. (Przepraszam. Moja języka polskiego jeszcze...niedobrze.)

Going from memory, IG Turquoise oxidizes to a very dark teal that reminds me a bit of Tsuki-yo.

hi, I'd also go for IG Turquoise ;) But I'm not the expert, I've never used Tsuki-yo. Any support on that issue from @Lgsoltek or @Cyber6? ;)

Funny. I have Turkus Galusowy! Also, Niebieski Galusowy #5 - and they're both very, very similar (to each other).

Well... I can see for myself how similar Turkus IG is to Iro. Tsuki-yo. Cool!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
