Wow. This is an amazing red.

I'd run out and get it but what would I do with the countless reds that I already own

Skrip Red

Diamine Matador

Private Reserve Dakota Red

Seitz Kreuznach Tomato Red

All very nice reds in their own right. This one would become just another participant in a growing crowd.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to think on it a bit, because this one is very enticing.

Thanks for the review.

I haven't tried it myself, but a while back I got a bottle of it (along with some other KWZI colors) in one of the FPN group buys for a friend, for her to do artwork with. (I printed off scans of the colors and let her pick which ones she wanted, to add in with the bottles I was getting for myself.

I think I may have her hooked -- a couple of months ago she wanted me to get her a Dark Lilac Safari.... :D

A wonderful red indeed, however I must note that it's a VERY wet ink, tried with an M nib on Leuchtturm1917 (Lighthouse) paper it took more than a minute to dry at 24C.

Interesting factoid: it's the same red as Stylex's budget red cartridge red ink, but that dries half (or third) the time - however I can't find that anywhere lately...

I have a bottle of this sitting comfortably at home, a preferred red for me

Yes, KWZ Thief's Red is just stunning and become one of my favorite rich, red inks.

Wet, It looks a bit disturbing :)

I have to admit that the first association with the blood red colour and that name is the custom of chopping off thief's hands. Maybe it's just me and my imagination.

Thank you for this great review. I was considering buying Sailor Jentle Irori red, but I like this one more, and it costs less. I think it's a winner. :)

I have similar thought. I would call this ink - KWZ- Theft's Blood instead.

Irori looks much more orange-y in comparison. Colourwise I think I prefer Thief's Red, but Irori has great sheen...

I was just gifen this as a free sample from an order from Vanness and so of course I came here to check out the review first before inking. I must say, this may be the red I have been searching for. I thought Sheaffer Skrip Red was, and De Atramentis' Dante Red too. But this one might be the one red for me. I'm testing all three to see how they look after having dried for a day. KWZ is turning into my second go to brand after Noodlers for inks.

I also received this as a sample along with my order of IG Gummiberry from Vanness Pens. I couldn't wait to get it onto a page, and removed the cart from my Pilot Met (Medium nib) and filled an empty one with it. This red is very nice and seems just a touch drier than the bottled Pilot/Namiki black. Although I must add I use firm nibs or manifolds, so no shading here. It dried as fast as I'd expect of any ink on Rhodia. It dried in 30 seconds on very shiny card stock I got as a piece of junk mail... with a bit of waving around to help a bit. Still has a bit of sheen when dry on that material. I am going to have to place an order for it as I think it will have a place in that Pilot for daily work, alongside my Estie J for black, and my Skyline which I use for iron gall ink. Now I have an excuse to take yet another fountain pen with me when I leave home. :-)

Really an amazing looking red. Thanks, everyone, for all the shots and comments. Looks like something I'll want to get.

One thing I often do with reds is mix up a red/black concoction. I love that. Anyone tampered with this adding a little black? It's so deep appearing already, but ...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
