For 51 Plum Hunters

It looks like what Ariel Kullock called "swirly purple." I have one and I'll try to take a pic showing the pattern. It has whitish swirls in the translucent purple.

Yes, please. Show us a good picture of the pen.

Pics of a Parker 51 in Kullock swirly purple and of a Parker 45 in swirly purple too.

You can click on the pics to magnify and the swirly purple shows better.

Did someone here get the plum on Greg Minuskin's site (going to Pennsylvania, it says)? I could have wept when I saw today that I had missed the chance.

Nope, not me.  I almost never look at his site.  Was it a full size one?  And what did it go for?

I never really likes "plum" as a color. I do appreciate its rare.

I’ve gotten really lucky and found both a Demi and a full size on the bay for cheap since they were advertised as black ones. They really are pretty when put against a burgundy model, but I refuse to pay going prices for them these days.

Same.  I'm a navy gray, dove gray, and cedar blue fan.  Would like to see a midnight blue in person, though.  I have a demi dove gray, but would love to get a full size.

Full-size.  $155 + shipping, which seems unreal given current prices elsewhere.

Yep, I paid a fair amount more than that to win an auction on eBay last August (my birthday present to myself). Clean, works, but nothing above the ordinary in terms of features -- regular Lustraloy cap, date code appears to be 8 so I assume that means 1948. Still, I scratched the itch, which is now at rest.

It's ironic in that I had MORE trouble getting Midnight Blue than the Plum Demi -- and paid MORE (not a lot more but a bit).  I'm not really a fan of Navy Gray, but I bid on the one I have mostly for the nib (OM or OB).

I didn't realize that they made the 51Vacs in Demi size.  I've only seen the Aero colors as Demis.

Whereas I wasn't particularly concerned about the "rarity" except as to the pricetag (which is why I haven't gone out of my way to find a full size Plummer).  But I do like the color, myself -- because, well, purple.... B)

My lighting is weird, so here's a pic next to a 51 Special in navy gray.

He claims that one is plum but it sure doesn’t appear so to me. I’m gonna watch that one just to see how high it goes. I have both sizes now so I won’t be buying it.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

A Parker 51 Plum Set with Case and Paper Box.

I had read about the 51 Plum Set. I was fortunate to find one with the original box and case. The filler instructions were included with the box. It looks like it was put away in a drawer without being used.

The set is attractive but it is not one of my favorite colors. It is almost black in regular light. I haven’t uncapped the pen and do not intend on uncapping it.

meh…..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
