Freshly Inked Montblanc William Shakespeare Velvet Red Le Ink Review Using Montblanc 149 :)

Hi! This is my first post on this forum excluding saying "hi" in the "Introductions" :)

The title and the photo pretty much say it all. I bought this limited edition ink just yesterday when I went to a nearby Boutique. Initially, I wanted a BMW blue, but it wasn't in stock and I didn't want to leave without anything :D

The last test came out weird - this ink feels much less wet than other MB inks, but when it actually came to checking the drying times the result was not that bad. Maybe the color makes it feel dryer?

In a few weeks I should get my Diamine Red Dragon I just ordered. I will definitely make a comparison follow-up and post it here.

Thanks for coming by! :)

Thanks for reviewing this ink C3Misiek. MB Red Velvet is one of my favorites. Were you ever able to get the BMW Blue? How did you like the Red Dragon (another favorite of mine)?

I think you will find Red Dragon to be more saturated, vivid. I was somewhat disappointed in Shakespeare in an MB fine nib.

Thanks for the review. Sometimes context, or lack thereof makes it hard to determine nib size. I assume it's a "F," yes?

Thank you for all the comments!

@mmg122: unfortunately not yet! Still unavailable at my Boutique. I think I will need to order it online.

@Joe in Seattle: still didn't get mine, will let you know once I know! :)

@Behike54: actually it's a really poorly writing B! The tines were soooo close together! I already gave it to a local nibmeister to have it fixed.

In my Waterman Hemisphere this ink looks much better after a few days. When it is freshly inked, it looks paler. I thought that water was to blame, but recently I inked it without flushing and the result was pretty much the same.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
