Taken aback by the beauty of those nibs. Wonderful showing, Tom!

~ geodesigner:

Thank you so much!

Mr. Axel Nier and the highly talented Bespoke Nib Team at Montblanc's Hamburg, Germany design studios crafted the three nibs.

They worked with me to tweak each nib to precisely fit my idiosyncratic writing and sketching requirements.

I can't say enough for their dedication to excellence.

I've always been bummed out that I didn't have any good equipment for macro shots. I recently saw that a camera app for IOS had been updated and the newest version was also compatible with my iPad. It mentioned macros and I figured it was worth a couple bucks to try it out. I'm actually amazed.

With no add-on (physical) macro lens, this is a totally quick-and-dirty shot: lay the pen down on the desk, hold the iPad, take the pic. When I have time to set up a shot and get the lighting right, this is going to be fun!

Some spare Pelikan beaks... From left to right: Pelikan IBIS (130), flexy F/M, early Pelikan 100 in M followed by a trio of Pelikan 100N nibs. Really love the imprint on the 100 nib, too bad it is not so flexy though... That IBIS nib though, sweeeeeeeet... cant wait to find an intact IBIS to put it into. :)

What app is that? Great shot!

It's called Camera+ 2 (2nd version of Camera+). Clunky name but a very slick app that gives you much more control over the camera.

Wow that's really a great shot! the Focus is on point!

What camera did you use and what are the settings for it? I gotta know :D

Thanks! That shot is from my trusty old Nikon D80 and a Sigma 150 macro lens. I usually shoot bugs but figured it was perfect for nibs too.

I keep coming back to your photo. The exposure is so perfect - the black sections are clear, even the suede texture is apparent, yet the gold nibs aren't overexposed or too bright. I really like it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
