Hate the vase bottle for reasons I've rattled off in other threads. For my needs and general practicality, the jar bottles are a delight!

 

Ikaho Magenta is a lush, rich color, Mew. I'll try to make a swatch of it later today and send it to you (for additional reference). I think you'd like it.

 

 

Well actually I like the caps of the jar bottles and dislike those of the vase bottles.

Kobe #6 and sweet potato purple look pretty close, and I didn't like #6 because it came out too pale with F nib. :|

Any comparison with old burgundy?

I had the same issue with #6. SPP is darker and more saturated, even from a finer nib.

 

If you want to send me one of your 16 bottles of Old Burgundy, I'I'll be happy to oblige! ;)

PS: If anyone has Joyful-2 Purple Heart, I'd be interested in how it and SPP compare.

They are quite different. Here's a swab (apologies for the other 2 irrelevant colours - it's a pic from last year).

I don't know if it's just me, but with the jar bottles, I find the caps don't always seem to fit perfectly. So with one or two of my Sailor inks in jar bottles, I get a little crystallisation around the threads, that drops off as powder when I open the jar. And I'm super careful about screwing on caps as tightly as possible. It annoys me because it always happens with my bottle of Sailor Apricot.

 

 

No, the vase bottles aren't perfect, because they are less stable. However, the openings are better because they are smaller.

 

I forgot I also have Grenade and Levenger Pomegranate. So I can cope without the lovely Ikaho Magenta

I find that orange and yellow inks seem to dry to powders more easily. I've noticed this with R&K Helianthus, Diamine Yellow and some others as well. For me the problem with the vase bottles is that the cap sometimes sticks to the glass due to dried ink and the cap is not tall enough to give me enough "grasp".

True :-) Midori is such a beautiful ink - just like a piece of jade. The tonal values are quite unlike any other green ink I have. Makes the other greens look quite flat.

I'm still bummed I missed Midori and Kirin, but I think Joyful-2 Haruna Green is close enough to the latter that it can appease me.

For what it's worth, here's a comparison:

The unlabelled swatch is Oku-yama.

 

These are all pretty colors.

 

I'm not a fan of sheen (a little goes a long way), but the colors are pretty nonetheless. I love these side-by-side comparisons. Thank you!

is it me or are Kobe #6 and BB SPP close colorwise?

The swatches make them seem more similar than they are in practice. I'll post writing samples when I can, but basically, SPP is darker and more saturated. I think #6 needs a really wet nib to shine.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
