Thanks for putting in some really interesting inks Cdub24! Pretty unlikely I would happen to be going past some specialty retailers in Japan :-) It's what the box is all about, thanks so much for letting everyone try these out. I've been enjoying some of the more common ink varieties too, everyone has contributed to making quite the awesome stash.

OK so we have the following interest in the box this time around:

HarrietHippo, Auckland

Stitchpunk, Auckland

PJO, Taihape

Cdub24, Christchurch / Auckland

Kelvinkeh, Auckland

Harriet Hippo, Auckland

Redscarves, Australia

... ?

Kelvinkeh is interested in the box again but not before June, so perhaps its best if we take our time with the box. i.e dont worry about taking 4 weeks with it. There is a lot to get through now and its hard to let it go without trying out one more :-) I'll look to send this off early next week.

  • 2 weeks later...

Arrived at my workplace safe and sound this morning. Guess I haven't had enough cups of tea because I couldn't think what it was! And then there was about 500 metres of bubblewrap to unwind

Some great colours - I'm especially keen to try out the Pilot inks - and I'm pleased that I have a few in my stash that I can contribute.

I will post some photos of my horrible writing with various samples at some point :)

if this box just happens to be in christchurch during the month of April I would love to meet up with someone and try a couple out - if i can find out what's in there i can bring 1 or 2 new ones with me in my suitcase.

My first ink sample! Apologies that the photo quality isn't the best. erm, how do I make the pictures less huge?

THANK YOU to the good person/people who put Iroshizuku inks into the collection :)

Put jmcollis either in front of me or after, because I'm in chch as well it'll be an easy drop off or pick up. Welcome jmcollis it certainly has developed some nice momentum and a great range of inks in the collection

Sorry I haven't been able to post any more reviews as yet - we've had a death in the family and events around that have taken all my time and attention. Also, I think I need more pens! I don't have any empty ones at present. And a job that involves a lot more hand writing and a lot less computers would also be helpful!

Do I need to get the library sent off soon so that it can be in ChCh for April?

Sorry to hear about your family events Stitchpunk :( Dont worry too much about getting through the box, we can always do another round. In terms of getting it to CHCH in time, if it works out that's great, but it may be too tight. Kiwi_in_Oz when are you in CHCH date wise? Dont fret, Cdub24 has so many inks that the ink library is probably in his Everyday Carry pack :P

Wellllll, I sampled another one today, BUT I also had *cough* 13 Robert Oster and 2 Herbin samples arrive from Goulet for my own collection. So I could pack the library up and get it on its way early next week if that helps.

By the way, did the rack that the vials are in come from Goulet? And if so was it prohibitively expensive to ship? Starting to think I could do with one...

The Robert Oster inks are nice, I've grabbed a couple

of bottles from a site in Australia and the shipping is reasonable. I've grabbed a couple of trays from Goulet's and they come flat packed and don't cost too much to ship worth getting for sure

Sorry it comes in about 5 or 6 pieces and you have to assemble it, so it's not very large or bulky to ship

Which site in Aus?? I'm interested in finding a couple of them to try. They seem to look impressive from the online pictures I have seen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
