Yes and Yes.... He did have Graphite at one point.... I think I read somewhere he was discontinuing graphite and black.. (don't quote me.. I can't remember the source, maybe his facebook page)..

In any case, when I saw Graphite I emailed him asap.. and ask if he can whip out a batch of Graphite. :D

I am sure he will .. he is lovely like that.

C.

How about asking the Kwzi's to "whip up a batch" of that wonderful variation of "IG Gold, mixed just for fun & their own experiments?"

I really like most of Mr. Oster's inks, although I'm not a fan of this Barossa Grape (or his bland reds). As others have mentioned, he is a lovely man and I've enjoyed doing business with him. I'm a big fan of the Signature blue inks and some of the greens. I'll have to check out the Graphite next time I visit his site.

Thank you, Vis, for reviewing this excellent line of inks in your usual thorough and entertaining manner.

Vis, Cyber6 and Migo, this ink looks radically different depending on the nib. I'll try and post pictures for comparison.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Most inks look quite different depending on the nib. It looks almost black on my wet flex nib. I believe I compare it to ink of witch in my review..

Yes indeed. Mine usually looks very different to Cyber6's because I use standard fine or medium nibs, mostly.

That's the same for nearly all Oster inks. Some are a bit weak in a pen that doesn't gush ink. They are also extremely paper dependent, and the shading varies a lot accordingly. I also struggle to get much sheen from most Oster inks, even on the usual sheen-maximising papers, unless I practically paint the ink on with a brush, so sheen is not what a 'typical' user would see from Osters.

I still love most of them though. Good, honest, bright colours, well-behaved, with some real beauties :-)

Shame the overseas stockists have hiked up the price :-(

Here are the comparisons. In my gushers, the ink is DARK. In most pens, you see the gray qualities.

Yes it definitely looks better with wet pens...but not to wet, otherwise it looks almost black. Wet, Barossa Grape has an interesting sheen, but unfortunately it does not show up when ink dries. But I quite like it anyway.

Here is a little bit of my contribution to this thread. You may find full review on my blog.

Ah Ruaidhri ya wee heid banger, you do indeed have an Irishman’s way wid dose words now. Hi Smug Dill,   Nice project.  If it were me, I'd cover stuff like: - nib types available, i.e. styles, materials (SS vs gold), flex vs nails; - filling systems (I love the "thingie" comment) and how once can use them in practice (e.g. fill cartridges with a syringe); - pen body materials and their consequences (pen not balanced of too heavy and big for the hand); - and, whilst you've made it clear that you do not like vintage pens, a discussion of these beyond "I d

Thanks for your input! Yes, not putting wood in the list of body materials warranting a mention was an oversight. I love pens with wooden bodies, but my main concern, or chagrin, is that I have not come across a wooden-bodied pen with a wooden cap that seals well. Actually, there is one, but it isn't really wood per se: the Pilot Custom Kaede's maple body is resin impregnated. All other wooden pens I have can dry out while capped and undisturbed; that includes several Platinum #3776 models.

That looks pretty good. You might want to add wood as a material (with its weakness of staining) and mention urushi. And under ergonomic considerations, the size of section (slender pens vs chunky pens), and shape of section, and 'disturbances' such as the Lamy 2000 'ears' and Pilot Capless clip getting in the way might be worth mentioning. Also possibly a general section on things you can do yourself with a bit of care, with a bit of practice, and things that are strictly "don't try this a
