On Robert Oster's shop website Barossa Grape is described as follows: " Flows on like a Cab Sauv, dries on like a light Shiraz with excellent shading"

I enjoy this ink although in some pens it looks boring. In order to fully enjoy it - given that you like such hues - broader or really wet nib would help. In old Waterman

In a fine nib, does this ink look nearly black, or can one see that it is a purple?

It will depend on how wet is the nib. On a wet nib, yes... it will look black.

Good to know. Maybe I'll be able to try it at the San Francisco Pen Show next week!

Nothing's lost ;) Now you have a reason to make a second order. With his pace of introducing new colors, RObert Oster has probably another 50 new inks on his website :) A lot to choose from. I'm tempted by Graphite.

So the image of graphite somewhere on the web was only to tease us ;)

Yes and Yes.... He did have Graphite at one point.... I think I read somewhere he was discontinuing graphite and black.. (don't quote me.. I can't remember the source, maybe his facebook page)..

In any case, when I saw Graphite I emailed him asap.. and ask if he can whip out a batch of Graphite. :D

I am sure he will .. he is lovely like that.

Interesting color. Reminds me of J Herbin Poussiere de Lune (which I actually didn't like all that much), and maybe the scans I've seen of KWZI Grey Plum.

Thanks for the review. This one is a maybe for me....

In my pens, Poussiere de Lune is a dusty but distinctly reddish purple. I am happy to see some dusty purples that lean toward blue rather than red.

@vis A 2nd order might make me lose my relationship, house and home :D I might be tempted if he keeps putting out stunning blues/blue-greys and greens...

@Cyber I just made my order a few days ago and asked for a bottle of Graphite, he had them in stock. In his emails he let me know that Graphite is only available through direct order from him. Hence I ordered directly from him rather than through ebay/website. I'm sure you can get some! :) I also ordered the new Summer Storm... Will post a pic once I get it :)

I'm sorry o benevolent ink goddess! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: I can't wait to see Graphite out of your stubby wet nibs!!

Yes it is the "Unnamed Blue Grey" but has now been named Summer Storm. I saw it on Yagan Kiely's blog macchiatoman.com. He mentioned it's not so saturated but the colour just calls to me

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
