Hi guys, does anybody have any idea how hard or easy it would be for me to buy an extra titanium number 6 bock nib and put it into a Franklin Christoph 02 intrinsic? Thanks

Looks like Jowo nibs. Some say that a Bock nib with the feed works in Jowo collars. Some say that it works with original feed. Yet some others say that it doesn't work at all. As the Bock titanium nib units are not exactly that cheap, I would get a steel nib unit first.

(I have been planning on trying swapping Jowo nib and feed to Bock collar, but there's other things to be bought at the moment.)

Hmmm.. thank you for that info. Do you think I would have better luck getting a nib assembly from tactile turn.com for a Gist pen ( don't even know what that is) or just the nib from Karas Kustoms?

Pretty much your choice. Karas Kustoms mentions this on their site:

PRICING IS PER NIB ASSEMBLY

That is very likely to mean the whole Bock 250 triple nib unit. For example Goulet pens sells those Karas Kustoms nibs as whole units.

While Bock apparently does sell just the nibs as "250 mono", I have no idea who actually sells them.

Okay I missed that. So having never bought a pen that accepts jowo/bock nibs, is it a total pipedream to hope that buying a nib unit from another manufacturer like Karas Kustoms it would just magically screw into the model 2 intrinsic?

Unfortunately, that's a no-go. The collars / sleeves / housings, what ever you call the plastic thingy around nib and feed, are not compatible between the companies. Your only chance is pulling the friction fit nib and possibly feed.

https://peaceablewriter.wordpress.com/2016/02/01/tale37/ has a good picture about that difference around midway in.

Okay, so Franklin-Christoph uses JoWo nibs. Assuming your Franklin-Christoph 02 Intrinsic is using a #6 nib, in theory you can swap a Bock #6 nib/feed into the collar of the F-C.

The collar is the piece the nib/feed sit in; the part that is threaded. Because the threads are different you can't just take your Bock Titanium and screw it in to your F-C.

You have to pull the nib and feed out of the collar from the Bock. Do the same with the JoWo/Franklin-Christoph nib/feed. Then insert your Bock nib/feed into your JoWo/Franklin-Christoph collar. You should be good to go once you do that.

Generally you want to keep the feed that came with the nib with the nib when you transfer it. So, Bock feed and nib stay together and you slide both into the JoWo collar. You can see from the links that aeba (thank you) shared from my post that I've done this successfully with more than one nib.

Hope this is helpful.

The Gist nib you mention looks to be compatible; sounds like it comes with nib/feed in a collar. I'm not at all clear about the Kara Kustoms nib units. I would encourage you not to buy just a nib, but a complete nib/feed unit. There's a place in the UK that sells the titanium as well. Can't remember who though.

Brian Grey made a video about how to switch nibs. At about 1:50 minutes in on the video in the link below, he shows how you pull the nib and feed out together.

(Mostly I'm just reiterating what aeba has been explaining, with just a wee bit extra explanation. Some people will disagree about keeping nib/feed together. For myself, I've done enough experimentation to believe a nib functions best with the feed it originated with. So make your own choice, ay?)

Oh my gosh this thread is a rollercoaster of emotions. Thank you guys so much for the help. See I've never handled a bock or jowo unit so I assumed that the threads were part of the feed itself, not a separate collar.

Ok, so it's sounding like as long as I get a whole unit this is doable. I'm willing to form out the $ to try, for science.

I will post my findings here once I give it a go.

You are probably thinking Beaufort ink.

Thanks for the re-iteration. Unfortunately I am not as fluent in english as I would like to, and it leads to certain... clunkyness.

A caveat. Don't want to rain on the titanium parade. I would take the jowo feed and unit, and perhaps alter the titanium nib from the back of the nib. Might be a little filing just as the nib slides in. I've had a little difficulty making a bock nib to fit. If that doesn't work use the bock feed and seal everything up with a little grease. Perhaps a little complicated but it should work.

Thought your English was just fine!

Yes I think it was Beaufort. Thanks for the link.

That's right, there's no threads to the feed itself in the Bock or JoWo units. (Or any feed that I can think of!) If you have some steel nibs around, they might be good practice for pulling nib/feed out. I usually run the unit under a bit of luke warm water. Sometimes harder to remove when dry.

I've only done this with gold and steel nibs, but the principle is the same. Do watch Brian's video. Look at how his fingers are placed on the nib and feed.

Best of luck in your experiment.

So, have we established that a Bock 250 titanium nib and feed will fit within a Jowo #6 nib housing, or not? I am kind of interested in this as I have 4 pens with Jowo nibs and wouldn't mind trying a titanium version or even just any Bock (it's an unknown nib to me).

Thanks. Because of certain things, I may be... (pardon this misuse) "OCD" about some things, in this case my written English.

Few examples of threaded feeds would be Parker Frontier and Sonnet, both of which at least used to be threaded. Of course neither of them has housed nib & feed, and just screws in the section.

Speaking for myself, I'm only saying a #6 Bock can be fit, IME. That was the OP's question I was addressing.

I don't know what the specifics are of a Bock 250 titanium are.

There are a lot of threads here on FPN that talk about nib swapping. Just a thought. There may be more definitive answer for the specific nib you're asking about.

I'm Beaufort Ink. Can I help here at all?

To all intents and purposes, the geometry of a Bock #6 and a Jowo #6 are the same. I'm certain that if you scanned the two of them side by side with one of the those little machines that will show you any differences, you will find tiny differences, but there again I'm certain if you did the same exercise with 2 nibs of the same make and type, you will also find tiny differences.

In essence, the two makes of nib are interchangeable between their respective housings, (or collars as they are being referred to in this topic thread).

The same is not true of their feeds. Whilst the housings will handle the nib swap, they will not handle the feed swap, because tiny, crucial aspects of their geometry are substantially different, principally the flat on their undersides, and the little stalk at the end which goes into the ink intake at the very bottom of the housing.

However, both nibs fit on a 6mm feed, and the upper side of both feeds, (the aspect that actually touches the nib), to all intents and purposes are the same. Therefore you are better off using the feed that goes with the housing, rather than trying to force a different make of feed in to somewhere it doesn't want to go.

With the greatest of respect to all who have contributed above, assuming that you have feeds and housings of good quality in the first place, and assuming that the nibs you are swapping are a compatible fit, (which is this case both assumptions are true) you are always better off using the feed that is designed to go with the housing. The relationship between feed and housing is every bit as important as the relationship between feed and nib

So, in summary, swap the nib, you will find it is a good fit, but use the original feed.

I hope that helps

Phil

Fantastic, Phil. That's a great help, especially for people like me who have zero experience of trying this. I do have a couple of Jowo #6 nibs (and a pen with a 3rd soon to come) and I had thought that fitting a titanium Bock is something I may enjoy. Now to look for a Bock! :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
