I am a sucker for cigar pens... but why-oh-why... the finials are black?? .. .Not crazy about the black/orange... I think I would have preferred an all orange pen.

My opinion of course... it still is a beautiful pen.. ;)

All-orange is tacky. Even Delta is easing back on their funny offering.

Sole means Sun in Italian..

It starts in the morning when is dark and ends in the evening when is dark again.

Black at both ends makes sense to me..

Hello everyone and thank you for your replies and opinions!

Sabin that's a really beautiful metaphor it does make sense. Furthermore, as the corners of an Aurora 88 are round shaped they are really difficult to fabric in marbled resin, this is why the brand decided to use black resin instead.

Kind regards,

The 88 line deserved a nice diversification for some time as they did with the Optima's.

IMHO it will bring a nice refreshment to the 88 lineup without damaging the classic appeal of the 88's.

I've got several from both and also by the reaction of people to these pens I believe they are timeless peaces.

Will be looking for the first chance to grab the Sole!

Current modern daily users: Montegrappa Miya, Omas AM87, S.T.Dupont D-Line, Stipula Etruria Tuscany Dreams, Tibaldi Modello 60.

Current vintage daily users: Aurora 98p, Big Red Lucky Curve, MB622, P51, P75, Pelikan NN400.

That's a good reason for the decision, but couldn't Aurora have handed in the savings to the customer?

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us!

It is indeed a beautiful piece, and you are right the 88 model has been updated since it was first created around the 1950's but its the details and shape what keeps it iconic!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
