Twsbi Vac 700 Reviewi

Dear all,

Here's my review of the Twsbi Vac 700 with M nib. I have seen another very comprehensive review on here since going to the trouble to write mine, but I feel that the more perspectives are available the better it is for all. Without further ado, here is my review of this pen.

Some additional notes, I think I had the pen in the wrong way wrong in the case, but you get the idea. Nicely presented. Also you can write with this pen posted even with the shut off open as it posts to the barrel, not to the knob. Personally I feel it's a bit too top heavy to write with posted for prolonged periods of time, but you certainly can do it.

Another little thing was that the nib tines were not aligned properly, but I checked this myself before inking the pen up and it was not big deal. I'm looking forward to getting some different nibs for this pen, and also the Vac 20 or Vac 20A ink well. That would really come in handy come exam time.

Also the fact that they supply you with the wrench, spare o-rings and silicone grease is a really nice touch.

Cheers!

If you placed in the case the wrong way, so did the person who packed my wife's new Vac 700.

The two clips that hold down the pen are not quite identical, one of them having a slight slot cut to fit the top of the clip.

The pen, btw, is my wife's new favorite, only in part because it holds so much ink; she can go a week or more before she has to fill it. Unlike most of her other pens.

It look like the "filler collar" or the threaded bushing that holds the shaft is made of metal (ss probably) instead of black plastic in concurrent topic (and in my pen as well).

Is it so?

Just to confirm do you mean the threading at the top of the pen? It certainly looks and shines like metal so I would say yes. The threading exposed when I unscrew the shut off seems to be metal and so the threading below that is probably metal too.

Ha ha..same pinch :) for both the pen & the review timings. Congratulations

The newer jowo vac700 nibs are coming out pretty good.

Think so...Hope the replacement shaft being sent by TWSBI has the metal collar :)

Thanks! Hopefully it would have the updated collar. By the way, mine came with the Jowo nib. Can't remember where I found out, might have been sbrebrown or Brian Goulet, but the Jowo nibs have the nib size designation under the 'TWSBI' name in the middle of the nib just above where it goes into the section, whereas the old nibs had the nib designation on the left side of the nib rather than in the middle.

I adore my Vac 700 and am sure it will bring you much pleasure in the years to come. :)

Thanks for the review. This is the reward I am going to buy myself when I hit a personal goal I have set. Very motivating.

I've been looking at this pen a bit- the large reservoir is appealing but truthfully I almost never need that much ink at any given time. I just love smaller pens, though!

You might prefer the Twsbi Eco then. It's a bit smaller and is a piston filler. For me personally, I can go through 1ml of ink a day so the large ink capacity on this really comes in handy. Plus I'll probably get another one, that way I'll have two different inks (red and black probably) for use in exams and won't have to worry about running out!

Personally I don't think you'd be dissapointed if you purchased this pen. The fact that it's a demonstrator vacuum filling pen makes it easy to love, and it writes beautifully. I love the M nib.

Haha good to know! The ink capacity is a big plus, especially if you dislike filling pens all the time (personally I LOVE filling and cleaning my pens haha I'm just weird that way).

You might like the newer Twsbi Vac Mini. Slightly smaller #5 nib, smaller body than the Vac 700, holds more ink than most pens its size, and it's a demonstrator, too. If it's anything like the Twsbi Mini, and a lot of early reviews say as much, it's a lovely little pen.

I just have to wait for my allowance to add up a bit more.

Good recommendation, forgot about the mini's. Also I've noticed that, at least with the M nib, the Vac 700 uses a fair bit of ink so the extra ink is sort of necessary in a way.

It's funny, I just got my Eco in the mail yesterday (I hadn't liked the looks of the Black or White models so I ended up jumping on the Clear version). I agree, I love the M nib that came with it, wide enough to show off some shading, wrote write out the box. I ended up swapping it for a Broad with Pendelton's BLS and it proved excellent as well. I had waffled between a F or M, but I'm content with my choice. Maybe one day I'll pick up an eco in a F just to give it a spin for comparison's sake. Something tells me though the M might be where I lean towards.

Ah that's right. I do have a TWSBI Mini and it's fun, just the right size for my petite hands as well. I'll have to see if the Vac Mini and regular Mini are the same size. That may be my next purchase!

You're right, my M lays down a nicely wet line, not overly so, but enough that I agree that the larger ink capacity is really utilized well and is a big plus! Truthfully I have more ink than I know what to do with so I am trying to embrace larger nib sizes despite my propensity to write small. Gotta use up all that ink somehow!

Great review, by the way. I think I may have neglected to mention that in my first comment.

Just got my clear 700 F in the post this morning but have been too busy to start and ink it today. More reports to follow but I can't decide which ink to use.

Thank you so much :D. I wish I had the same problem with ink! I have three bottles of Parker Quink that I just refuse to use having used some Robert Oster Signature Inks, and so instead when my 10 year old brother showed a lot of interest in fountain pens I bought him some and will ink his pens up with that :P.

I agree with the wetness of the M nib, it's wet but not ridiculously so. I love it with black inks that aren't as dark as some 'true blacks' out there, because the wetness means they look almost perfectly black. Then with inks that offer shading, you get really lovely shades with each letter you write and line that you draw. I think I'll be adding a few more Twsbi's to my small collection before I start to branch out on other brands.

I too am curious about the F nibs, but honestly I love the experience of the M nib so much. Just like yourself, I tend to prefer to write smaller but I was happy to sacrifice that for the writing experience with the M nib.

For me one of the best things about this pen in particular, aside from the nib, is that I love the fact that it has a vacuum filling mechanism. For me it adds a certain joy to using the pen, and the fact that Twsbi provides you with everything you need to maintain the pen just enhances that experience.

Whichever ink you use, I'm certain you will love it! I'd love to hear what you think of the F nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
