Vac 700 Material

Hi has anyone idea ...

 

Whether the material on VAC 700 especially the Amber, Smoke and Sapphire is the same as used in 540 ... and is that also more prone to cracks as was 540....

Don't know. But I have 7 Vac 700's in Amber, blue, smoke, and totally clear. All of mine have self colored section and fill knob. The ones I've seen recently have black section and knob. They are one of my favorite writers. Never an issue with any of them.

I think it's the most robust and durable pen that twisbi put out. Holds a ton of ink as well. Mine are a couple years old. I think they are really well made. The new Eco or even Vac mini, don't hold a candle to it.

According to information from Twsbi from December 2014, they used a polycarbonate plastic with a hard surface coating for their pens. (It seems that the coating to reduce scratches was related to the cracking issue in the 530 and early 540 in the body thread areas. Some adjustments to the application process was intended to obviate the problem, and it seems to have mostly done it.)

 

IIRC, they moved to a different type of plastic for the Eco, but I don't recall what type.

My 700 is the one plastic TWSBI that hasn't experienced any cracks. My classic hasn't cracked either. I haven't treated the 700 any differently than my 580s. I've never owned a 540, so I can't speak to that model. No problems with my micartas. The only culprit in my twsbis has been the 580.
