I purchased my first Lamy today! Being the purple lover that I am I went with the Dark Lilac :) the color is absolutely gorgeous. It feels so comfortable in my hand, I love the grip. However, I'm not too sure if I'm keen on the nib (medium)...or maybe it's the ink (Noodler's Bat Black Texas). It feels like it "skips", for lack of better terms (I'm a newbie). Or maybe it's scratchy. Take a look at my pics and tell me what you think (excuse my handwriting, por favor!)

No, your handwriting is fine. Congrats on your limited edition purple. Good looking ink, too

Thank you so much! I was really excited to purchase it. I'm glad there are forums such as this one where I can share my excitement.

My first fountain pen is a Lamy Safari too. I've only been using cartridges so far and I have a fine nib. I went with Umber for the color.

Awesome! I really like that ink. I think I may pick up a fine nib for mine.

The Dark Lilac Safari is such a nice color. What a coincidence that Williamisthe1's first Safari is also a matte finish like the dark lilac. Congrats to you both- the Safari is a solid first pen. (Although you will probably want more.)

My first Safari is also one of the Dark Lilac pens, but mine has an F nib in it. I have only used Lamy ink in it so far: the cartridge it came in and then some of the Dark Lilac ink (which, BTW, is also really nice even when diluted with distilled water).

I haven't had the skipping problems that PenerysTargaryen was complaining about, so I'm suspecting it might be the ink (the F nib on my Safari is very smooth, so I'm surprised that there's an issue with the M. But it could be that the nib wasn't as well tuned when you got the pen (I don't know what Lamy's QC is like, having just the one). Or it could just be that pen and ink aren't a good combination, and you're having flow issues.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Ordered my first Lamy shortly before heading out to Kuala Lumpur for a business trip. What terrible timing! My Dark Lilac Safari with medium nib has been sitting at home since last Wednesday...can't wait for Saturday so I can ink it up with the matching ink.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
