Sheaffer 300, Is It A Writer

Hey guys. I'm getting a new fountain pen all my experience was with Lamy Vista. I like it very much. Yet I'm looking for a smoother experience. As a student, I don't have much budget and sheaffer 300 is probably the most I can do here.

I asked a friend of mine which is the largest fountain pen collector and he said Lamy safari's experience is a very expensive one, but he also suggested Sheaffer 300 and Parker vector.

What do you think? Is sheaffer as good writer as Lamy Safari is?

The 300 is a decent enough pen but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't consider it a massive upgrade over the Vista in terms of the writing experience. It is a nice looking pen - there are little details in the fit and finish that bother me personally. For around the $50 mark it is tricky... Can you order pens from overseas? Try Mr. Pen's Parson Essential or locally probably some of the Faber Castell's Basic line. All the best!

Thanks :) Sadly we cannot order anything from here. We are still in boycotts.

I have two Sheaffer 300's, a fine and a medium. The 300 is a metal pen and is rather heavy.

Too heavy for a shirt pocket, okay for inside a suit jacket pocket or pen case.

I don't have the other pens you mention so can't comment vis-a-vis the 300.

Posted the 300 is top heavy, unposted it is well balanced, mine write well.

It is probably more suited for someone with larger hands. I wear XL size gloves and it is a good size.

I prefer the medium nib and would buy it again.

When I pick it up I always think it could be used as a weapon.

Thanks a lot for the great review. I always wanted some protection :D

I think I go for it :)

I do not know who all is boycotting Iran. I'm sure it includes the G8, but may not include India; try getting in contact with the folks at ASA Pens, to see if they can ship to you. You could also look for pens on Ali Express, and vendors in Signapore,

The top three beginning pens recommended around here are the Lamy Safari/ Vista/ Al-Star, the Pilot Metropolitan /MR/Cocoon, and the Platinum Plaisir. I don't know who might be willing to ship them to you.

Okay, let me explain. We are banned from any international purchase, by means of not having access to any international banking system (mastercard, visacard, paypal, etc). Also sending stuff to Iran is still illegal, unless it is medical drugs and things like that. That is not to say that we cannot go into illegal transactions.Which there are some small companies that do just that.

But see, They ask for an postage fee, which is usually about 40-60$. That fee is for them. So the fee for international postage is not included. Also we have to get some international dollars. But the exchange to that money is also not without costs. So for every 3$ you have to also give 1$ to for exchanging the money.

So a 30$ pen ends up about 120$. Which is crazy.

The sheaffer 300 is a great writer, I have three and they write very smoothly out of the box.

I just checked the price for the 300 and you can get it black or blue color with steel cap CT for 115,200 Toman.

Best regards.

<------- smiles, I live in Iraq, but let's say I have good relationship with some retailers in Iran, BTW I could have got it cheaper than the price you got it for ;)

Enjoy using your pen in good health.

New diplomatic tools: free fountain pens, ink cartridges, and notebooks for everyone. Cheaper and less, umm, destructive than anything else I've heard about.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
