Con-70 Compatibility

Hello, been googling but couldn't find a complete list of compatibility so I'd allow myself to ask directly and specifically: is the CON-70 compatible with these Pilots?
- the MR series (US version, not with the international converter)

- the 78G

- the Parallel Pen

Sadly not that I'm aware of. I know it doesn't fit the Metropolitan or 78G and I seem to recall the Goulets saying it doesn't fit the parallels.

They don't fit any of those pens. The CON-70 is used in the higher-end pens such as the Custom and Custom Heritage lines.

Thank you. Sadly, then, I will have to go with the CON-40? As they say the CON-50 and CON-20 is (or going to be) discontinued? How about that? Does the CON-40 fit in any of those pens?

Yes, it does. Con-40 will fit all Pilot Pens that don't take con-70.

I hadn't heard about the Con-40. So, what are the differences between it and the Con-20 and Con-50? I have a practically new VP (still had the warranty card in the box) in an antiques store a couple of weeks ago and spent about a day and a half soaking it enough to get the cartridge off and the nib assembly flushed out. There was what I think is a Con-20 converter (squeeze type) in the box. And I gather the Con-50 is a twist-style converter). So what exactly is the Con-40 going to be, and what's the ink capacity compared to the other two converters?

As for ink capacity,

Con-20: I have no clue.

Con-40: 0.4ml

Con-50: 0.5ml

Depending upon the nib you use, con-40 won't make an already bad day worse.

 

As you said, con-20 is the squeeze type convertor and con-50 is the twist type convertor. Con-40 is also a twist type convertor, but with 4 balls to break surface tension as compared to 1 (I think) in con-50. This should promote better flow.

CON-20 and the similar squeeze converters in the Metropolitan/78G pens hold about 0.9ml

 

A correction to Mew - Any pen that can take a CON-70 can take a CON-40, though why you'd do that ...

 

CON-20 and 50s are still easily available since there's a huge stock of them still. In a year or two... who knows?

Also, per Brian Goulet on one of his Youtube Q&A's, the con-40 will be slimmer than the con-50, so it'll fit pens that are too narrow for the con-50 and can currently only take a con-20.

CON-40 is the bridge for the CON-50 and CON-20

CON-40 will fit pens that can fit the CON-20 = all Pilot pens new and old (except the Parallel Pen and Pilot pens that need the CON-W)

with the mechanism of a CON-50 (fitting most Pilot pens except the Elite)

but not with the size of the CON-70 (only fits the larger pens from Custom 74 and Heritage 91 to their distant XX2 and XX3 and the XX5 cousins and Legance Heritage)

Meanwhile I came upon this interesting video, where the guy shows how CON-20 and CON-50 fit in the Parallel Pen, interesting enough, the third option to use with the Parallel Pen is to fill up the entire back section of the pen and use no converter, having a HUGE ink depository...

The only steel nib Pilot pen that I know will take the Con-70 is the Pilot Kakuno. At least the pastel color version ones.
