I have what may seem to be a silly question.

What is ebonite? What is it made from?

I have heard that it is a hardened rubber. It this correct?

The reason why I am asking is that I have a serious allergy to latex (a rubber). I have used pens in the past that have a rubber substance on the grip and have had allergic reactions. So, I am much more cautious now.

Ebonite is Vulcanised or Hard Rubber. It was used in many older pens (CHBR is Chased Hard Black Rubber) it is mostly rubber but with some sulphur and linseed oil. I did find a discussion on a flute making board where someone stated that it is non allergenic. I would be wary but if you have a Waterman's 52 or similar then that is ebonite. Apparently Bowling balls are or were made from Ebonite, so that might give you a clue.

Depending on how sensitive to latex you are you might want to try holding an ebonite pen to find out if it does cause issues. It would probably be a useful thing to know given that feeds can be made of ebonite in almost any pen.

I hope that this helps.

Glad to see another great group buy! Thank you for organizing.

Is it possible to have a cap that comes off in fewer turns? Two or less would be great but I'm not sure what's possible.

Dear Mr. Taike Sir,

We will try our best but we cannot guarantee it as everything is completely handmade.

after my order Mr Kandan has replied to clarify my choices were not fully applicable.

I think this may be useful to others in "pen configuration" as there are so many options!

Mr. Kandan advises

"For Spec 1:
----------------
1. Green/Yellow will have black specs.
2. Bock M nib is white colour . So Do you need White Clip or Gold clip?

For Specs 2:
------------
1. White Jowo B nib is not available. Can I put 2 toned Broad nib?
2. The Blue/ Olive Ripple is very similar to colour #10 in the below listing

http://www.ebay.com/...FoAAOSwZSFXJjCD

Please let me know."

My reply to Mr Kandan:

dear Mr Kandan
thank you for the information
let me try to change my request according to limitations
my starting assumptions
I would like to take two of the new regular ebonite colours but I would prefer them to be without black specs
I would like one pen to be CC and the other ED
I would like one nib to be M and the other to be B
I would like one pen to be gold clip + gold nib (plated) and one pen to be silver clip + silver nib
in particular I would like the blue and olive ripple to have silver clip and silver nib
so according to your comments
"Bock M nib is white colour"
I would like the blue olive ripple to be the ED pen with bock nib M silver and silver clip
RANGA MODEL 8 (ED Version)
--------------------------------
REGULAR EBONITE : US $32

Finish - Polished
Colour : blue-olive ripple (no. 8 of the new regular ebonite)
Nib Option : Bock M at extra US $ 8. (silver finish)
Clip Option Finish : Silver Color

total USD 40
the other pen can be another of the new regular ebonite colours, but without specs please
(which do you suggest? is the pink yellow without specs? is the B nib gold finish available?)

RANGA MODEL 8 (CC Version - German Nibs & Converter)
REGULAR EBONITE : US $63

Finish - Polished
Colour: pink yellow ripple (no. 7 of the new regular ebonite)
Clip Option Finish : Gold Color
Nib Option : JoWo Nib Gold colour B Nib
Schmidt K5 Converter

total USD 63

grand total USD 103
Please confirm if the above is workable
thank you and regards
Enrico

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
