I am new to California...just moved here from Colorado. Looking for like-minded pen accumulators to have occasional gathering to share stories, inks, paper...

A ship can have a berth at the pier and I suppose you could say it berthed there.

A Posse is born.

What's the "drill"?....do we pay for venue/take a collection? Or just expected to buy food at Cafe?

Do we have access to a sink, for sharing inks? (If so, I bring inks, vials, etc.)

Looking forward to meeting!

I'm curious too! I live up in Oakland, but might be able to make the trek down to Milbrae. I haven't been to one of these before.

All you pay for is is your lunch.

Bathroom is near by, for washing and dumping ink.

Pretty much anything goes, within reason, just don't wreck the place.

Lots of discussions and "show and tell."

Just don't get to close to Farmboy, he has a big box of NOS modern FP, RB, and Ballpoints for the Posse. His head is likely to explode! :yikes:

If Gary starts dancing on the tables, it's best to just back away and let him do his thing...

I also called a special Pen Posse for the Flax Pen Faire on May 21st. Flax has now moved to Oakland, so this will be the first time we meet at the new location.

There is also a Pan Pacific Pen Club Meeting in Foster City on May 14th.

We'll skip Mother's Day weekend but probably have another Pen Posse on the 29th. I'm still working on the winery Pen Posse. I'll have more details once I talk to Phil Moss.

  • 11 months later...

I am in the east bay. Any news of meetings still going on.

Yes. Last week was a Pan Pacific Pen Club meeting in Fremont. This week is an event at Peyton Street Pens. Next week there will most certainly be something at Peters in Millbrae. If you want to scare the locals just start a thread and call a Pen Posse for Peters Cafe on Sunday from 1 PM to ? Like a flash mob, people will just show up.

The next normal Pen Posse meeting will be May 7th at Peter's Cafe in Millbrae. I'll make the formal announcement later in the week.

We are coming up on the SF Pen Show, so meets will be happening more often as we get closer to the pen show date.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
