How To Find A Crv?

Shannon

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been covered, but I couldn't find it.... (even with a search and after reviewing the pinned posts)

How does one go about finding a CRV? Or starting one? It looks like a fun way to put pen to paper.

Thanks!

My fingers are always inky and I'm always looking for something new.  Interested in trading?  Contact me!

Shannon,

This is my second time writing this post because I foolishly clicked away and lost my first post. Sigh. Anyway, I have handwritten you a response that I will post in a few minutes. First let me apologize for not seeing this question sooner. I was out of town and off line. Since I can't stand the thought of losing more of my typed words, look for multiple posts in the next few minutes to answer your multiple questions.

ARGHHHHHH - Post 2 - second time posting it.

HOW TO FIND A CRV.

Option 1

Use the advanced google search for FPN.

In the upper right corner of this page next to the google search bar is a little icon for advanced search features. Look for a particular ink in this forum to see if it has been part of a CRV.

Now, the advanced search may not always give you a complete picture, because not all of the CRVs have a complete list of inks.

For example in the Parker Penman CRV, more than 100 blue inks were compared, but a specific ink may not show up on the google search because it is not in the title, or the tag. Even more frustrating for the average searcher is trying to find an ink in the Ink a Day thread. Since I'm trying to use at least 366 inks this year, and the thread is on going, I don't have a list of what inks will eventually end up in the thread. So, a particular ink may be CRVed, but it is not in the google search.

So, this brings us to the Index. The index will have to be created by hand and posted by a moderator. We have had two volunteers get too busy with their real lives to do the index so we fall further behind. Thankfully, a new moderator has taken over the indexing of the Ink Reviews forum so you should see improvements in that index.

The indexes, in theory, should be automated, but so far, the software has not performed adequately. We will be updating software this year again so maybe we will see an improvement.

Completely off topic, but I've been struggling with the default FPN search results box since I joined. I never realised there was an advanced search which presents the results in a much more usable format.

Thanks Amberlea.

I'm glad to have helped! It took me almost an hour to write those posts because if you click on something you get dragged from the page and lose what you have typed. This never happens when I use my pens!

Just opened the CRV and am already thinking of inks/pens to use. I'm going to ink up something I haven't used in a while -- what a good excuse!

Last question -- do I mail the finished CRV back to you? Or just scan and upload?

You can scan and upload or you can send it back to me. I love it when you scan and upload. I also enjoy reading the letters and seeing your inks in person (or on paper).

Are you serious about rinsing writing off Tomoe River paper and writing on it again? I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question. I can't find anything in Google.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
