I have this problem of the wax sticking to the stamp, what am I doing wrong?

How can this problem solved?

you need to use ice.

it cools the stamp and should help...

 

don't forget to use the stamp on a tissue first to remove the extra moisture...

Yes, sorry, being silly -- it's been a stressful week (including losing the checkbook) and I need to blow off a little steam. Especially since the local antiques mall was seriously devoid of fountain pens this afternoon.... (Seriously -- do people actually collect wooden pencils? Or old Papermate felt tips that don't have any other thing going for them, like an imprint to attract those who collect specific types of memorabilia?)

Of course, this thread is now making wish I had the disposable funds to actually have a signet ring designed for myself.... Sigh.

I breathe heavily on my seal before I put it in the wax. 99% of the time it releases the way I want it to; however, if I have sealed several envelopes in a row without a little break to cool down it will most assuredly stick.

 

I have not tried ice; I have tried a wet paper towel, which worked nicely (again, 99% of the time) when I am set up to seal holiday cards.

Exhale from the mouth to the seal to create a vapour barrier, so that the wax will not stick to the seal.

I stole a small piece of cotton (for make up removal) from my wife. I moistened it with oil (mineral, light oil).

Before doing anything, I press the seal against the wet cotton and then use it on the hot wax.

Do not use vegetable oil for spoiling possibilities, lubricating oil works better.

I've also heard of rubbing the top of your nose (with your finger) and applying that little bit of sheen on the stamp. Works all the time. (No, you don't have to put the seal on the tip of your nose.) I wouldn't use this method for archival work.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
