$12 Ink Haul @ Thrift Store With Parker Penman Ebony Bottle

I stopped into a local thrift store a few times over the last week and picked up some nice ink. The Parker Super Quink Permanent Turquoise came new in the box in the Blue Diamond bottle and just cost me $1 on Friday. I picked up the rest of it all today for $11 and all are full bottles. Included were Parker Penman Ebony, Waterman Blue Black and Havana, and a bottle each of Mont Blanc Blue and Black. Nice finds and no repeats at a good price. No pen finds this time and the only regret was that the Parker Penman ink wasn't Sapphire Blue. It's the same shop where I found my Parker T1 and 51 pens and some other assorted finds. I'll have to meet up wth the Pen Posse to show them off some day.

Good find. However, you may find the PP Ebony a bit thick and gloopy, compared to modern inks, especially if it has evapourated out a bit in the bottle.

You might want to take out a few mls, and add a little water (20% to start with) to get a better behaving ink.

Thanks for the advice on the Penman ink thickness. I've read a few posts on the troubles it has. I'll make sure to thin it out a bit when I try it out.

It looks like my pictures didn't get added from my mobile post. I'll try to fix that.

Me either. The ones by me? I'm surprised if they even have bags of (new) ballpoints....

But Parker Penman inks? Never in the wild. Empty OR full.... I've been able to snag vintage bottles of Quink (the ones that sort have the squared off bottoms -- I know they're from the 1940s because a couple of times I've found Microfilm Black for V-mail and that's the same shaped bottles). Oh, and couple of times I've seen Superchrome boxes/bottles....

Great buy. Watch out for the Permanent Turquoise: it doesn't like to leave the pen it's been inhabiting.

Ok DustyR. It seems the two nicest inks I picked up have "issues" I'll have to contend with but I'm still glad I found them!

Don't be discouraged. The turquoise is a great, distinct color. It's just a bit harder to clean up than some.

What's it like compared to vintage Skrip Peacock? That stuff stays on your hands for a couple of *days*....

Never used the Skrip, but the Perm. Turquoise was the hardest ink cleanup of a vintage pen I've done (Parker 45 - took about four days of soaking-rinsing-soaking to get clear water to come out of it). Every time I thought "It has to be clean now" I'd shake the section over the sink (nib was removed), and get a neon blue spray. By "permanent" Parker may have meant how long it would stay in your pen.

Fountainpagan, you must by now be the sumgal of inks. And by a huge margin. Congratulations on a fabulous find! Enjoy.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
