Enjoy your blog posts - I think I must have read everything you had written when you first posted about blog, some months back, now I just read your last post. There are some gaps in between. :)

I also looked at some of your other blogs. Liked the quotes one.

THANK YOU!!!! You are my star!!!!

Yes, there are gaps between my posts.... my blogs are page based and wordpress treats them differently. I only use posts to tell people about new pages I have completed. Some of the pages take weeks before I let them out... I try to get it right.... still an ingeneer! B)

I don't know, whether you are a follower, at least then, you get informed when I release a post. In case you want to do that, it needs to be done for each blog, individually.

I am glad you liked the one with the quotes. It is probably the most personal one.

I changed the header image on the fountain pen magic blog... what do you think?

I suppose it's not an "understanding" issue, I have just read the article again and everything is actually commendably clear, it's more a "need to know" and "retention" issue.

I again glossed over the formula bits knowing that I would NEVER remember any of them or how to make use of your imparted knowledge.

As for other questions, hmm. The main mystery to me, as I keep so many pens inked up at any one time, is how pens lose their ink when completely sealed off to the outside world.

My Noodlers pens in particular

Thank you again for a wonderful reference page.

I have worked in several ingeneering fields.... and I think, it is not about remembering a formula, but knowing that it exists and when you need it, you know where to find it. For "when you need it" I only need to remember the principle, the application. I have to admit, I could not remember the formula...

....how do they loose ink? Very good question. Most cartridges and inner caps are made of plastic (PE,PP, PU), which is permeable to water. Ink is dirty water, 2 - 5 % other stuff. I recommend, when you put a pen away for longer, empty and clean it with water.

I don't know anything about the design of Noodler pens to comment on why they would dry out quicker.

It is my pleasure to write about fountain pens and being able to be of assistance

It's all meant to be light hearted and fun... why else would one do anything, if not for this reason?

Perfect timing. I'd just mown the lawn and made a coffee to catch up on emails.

I didn't bother with the emails :) but read your wonderful piece instead.

Thanks again for filling our brains with fountain pen science.

Hi Tas

That sounds encouraging.

From teaching I learned: When you have given something to one person, the lesson was successful.

Could I ask you for a favour and copy your comment into the comment section of my blog? That would be great.

For your information: It may be for some time before I will publish an article in the fountain pen magic blog. The last half year, I spent almost all my writing time on this blog. I have several other blogs and a stack of scribbles awaits its transformation into legible text. If I wait for too long, I forget what it was all about. It's not the first time.

Maybe, I can invite you to have a read of some of my other writing. I probably will announce it here as well, when I publish something.

:D Hey! It took me several years to learn it all and another lot of several years to write down what you see... and there is another lot, before it will be completed.

Thank you for taking the time... and if it feels ok, leave comments on the pages of my blog. Thanks :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
    • A Smug Dill
Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
