Some Questions About Fountain Pen Montblanc Heritage 1912

When you shake your pen holding it close to your ear do you hear a faint rattling sound? I can hear something moving around inside the pen. Earlier I thought it was ink swishing around. I don't think so any more.

The piston mechanism is working and the pen performs magnificently. The heritage is my favourite MB right now and has seen daily service for three years.

No sound in mine, that said, I'm not one shake any pen more than gently.

Meiers, how has the pen fared after three years of daily use? Any wear? A picture would be great.

I forgot to write immediately after purchase. I bought my Heritage 1912 with F nib in the store 3 days ago. Excellent pen. And as I wanted, it writes noticeably thinner then my Pelikan M805(F) !

Well you now know it writes thinner than the Pelikan. How's the balance? I know you were concerned about that weight distribution.

It has held up very well. The only wear that is noticeable is a circular ring mark left by the cap on the barrel. the action of screwing and unscrewing the cap creates this mark. And then there is the suspicious rattling sound...

Pictures later...

Yes, there is a very, very weak sound

Thank you for the reassurance.

The balance is quite good for me.

Ditto. The balance is good for me too.

I also hear the slight rattling sound, I think it is normal and I am not in the least concerned about it.

This pen is a beauty, money well spent.

Mine's so far silent and have been using for almost a year and 2 months and is my favorite pen among my Lamy 2000 series too.

Mine has the rattle too. It's very hard to hear, but then again, I have hearing damage.

So it's probably normal. Thanks for letting me know. Edited by meiers

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
