You should add "La boutique du Stlylo". They have 3 stores on Montréal and Québec city. They carry all brands of pens and inks and some paper as well. They have an online store www.stylo.ca with free shipping over 50$. Their prices are very competitive.

There is also "Nota Bene" on Parc in Montreal. They have the widest selection of papers and notebooks that I've ever seen. They also have a pretty good selection of pens and inks. Www.nota-Bene.ca

Also in Montral is papeterie Casse-Noisette. The sell fine papers and have a large selection of caligrapgy pens. They also carry a good rang eofeoffountaon pens. When I was there I observed Lamy, Kaweco, Parker, Viscount among others.

Lastly, in Longueuil, on the south Shore of Montreal is a homegoods store called "Vincent & Moore" that carries a small selection of paper and notebooks ad well as fountain pens and inks. I saw Cross, Faber Castell and Lamy.

I just found out that Wallachs in Kingston, Ontario, Canada has closed its doors. The good news is that new shop popped up in its place.

Art Noise www.artnoise.ca

It appears to be a retail outlet for a company called Tri-Art. They specialize in Artist paint, as well as high end audio component. The paint line is actually manufactured in Kingston.

They do not carry a large line of calligraphy supplies yet, but are looking to expand based on what customers are looking for. So, to get a larger line of products, more people have to go in looking. Right now they seem to only carry speedball, including a large selection of nibs and holders. They also have an india ink, an a chinese ink.

Just to add about Articulations - they have a ton of art supplies that aren't listed on their website. Their online store is only a small sampling of what they have in store.

Thanks for sharing online stores in Québec. I ordered several pens from Stylo and had good experience with them. Stylo has reduced the free shipping limit to $35. I may try the other 3 stores you recommended in the future. :)

Sorry for necro-posting, but I got into a discussion yesterday with someone at the picnic I was at yesterday.  She is an SCA scribe, and was asking me (as her "expert" when it comes to fountain pens) about what pens and inks were good to recommend to beginners.  She was thinking about Pilot Plumix pens, but doesn't like the ink in the cartridges -- especially for using on pergamenata (a type of vegetable-based parchment paper).  So I told her I'd do a shout out on FPN, looking for inks that work well on that, and report back as to what people on FPN suggest.  I also told her about places she can order the Pilot Plumix pens with the 1 mm stub nib from that I found online last night when I got home, and which converters apparently fit those pens (I don't have a Plumix, but I happened to have my Pilot Falcon with me).  She had been complaining that the Pilot Parallel nibs weren't small enough for some of the work she does, but of course I don't have any experience with those either.  I will try to remember to ink up my stub nib Pilot Metropolitan to bring to choir rehearsal next week, to see how she likes that width (I'm guessing that the nibs between the Plumix and Metropolitan will be similar enough).

Moderators: feel free to move this to a more relevant thread.  I just did a quick search for "pergamenata" in the hopes that someone in this forum was familiar with it.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
