Starting in April 2016 Pelikan is going to re-issue the M205 Blue Demonstrator in a slightly modernised version with a silver cap top.

Nibs will be available in EF, F, M, B.

I like this blue transparent colour very much, so I'm going to get one as soon as it comes out. :)

Very nice. Sargetalon did a blog post about it....

I have my pre-order in. Definitely like the chrome cap top a bit more than the black of the original.

Even with Pelikan's recent profligacy in new releases, surely they aren't going to bring out two M2xx demonstrators in the same colour range in one year, are they? So is this effectively the rumoured "aquamarine" 205? Because, if so, I confess to being a little disappointed. Which is sad, because before the aquamarine rumour, I'd have been happy as Larry to get a chance at a re-release of the blue demo.

But yes, I'll probably end up ordering one, even so. And I agree that the chrome cap top is an attractive improvement over the original.

The original was only five years ago, wasn't it? I seem to remember it hanging round, often heavily discounted, for quite a while as well. I can only suppose Pelikan have found a few sacks of the injection moulding granules down the back of a sofa.

If they wanted to revive a demonstrator, the rich blue of the 2002 demo (aka 'blue puddle') would be the one I'd go for. Changing the trim from gold to silver would also create an entirely new pen. This seems to be a pen for collectors that a lot of collectors probably already have. Fair enough, but if this means no aquamarine, then that's really disappointing. Was there ever any firm notification about this, or did everyone just assume there would be a pen to match the aquamarine ink?

I love it when Pelikan releases a new demonstrator - it means my wallet gets a reprieve. My OCD will never permit me to own a demonstrator! I hope everyone who picks one up will enjoy. It's a beautiful pen, but one I'd just never use. To each, his own :)

Yes, but don't you like M8xxs? However lovely they look, they're too big for me - that's a much greater reprieve for the wallet! :D

Actually, it's a fair point - the M2xx seems a bit overdue a good solid non-demo blue. I don't mind the demos, but sometimes you just don't want to get distracted by the ink sloshing about in the barrel. To and fro. Gently lapping at the shores of feed and plunger. To and fro, to and fro, your eyelids are getting heavy, you feel very calm... zzzzzzzzzzzz... Sorry, wha'? I'm awake, I'm awake.

I too would like to see the "blue puddle" color re-released. It might be nice if they reissued all of the 2002 demonstrators, maybe over a four or eight year period. I love me that anthracite demo!

You're bang on the money! But (doubly?) lucky for me, the M805 demo appears to be the most expensive of all!

Well huzzah! That can clearly be classed as money saved, thus putting you in pen-buying credit. I'm pretty sure that's how it works, isn't it...?

Was also disappointed that it is the same colour as the one a few years ago. Just sold mine last year!! Would have loved a darker blue demo with silver trim or as has been mentioned a reissue of the old gold trim demos but with silver trim. Oh well some money saved for the time being ;)

Haha! That's probably very true! I'm not a M2xx collector, but judging from the past version (which I almost bought), this will be a nice pen and probably do brisk sales!

A precedent had already been set. The recent cognac demonstrator was a re-release of the amber demo, albeit with very slight trim modifications.

I didn't get the Cognac demonstrator, I didn't get the Amethyst demonstrator, and I won't get the Blue demonstrator.

I'm distraught though I'm thinking about this Blue Demo over the CH 92 Blue Demo... arguably both pens are in the same price range... so I really don't know what to do this would most likely decide my next pen purchase... next year... so

a: getting the blue demo would be hard if I'm dead set on the Pelikan

b: I already own 1 Pilot pen that can accept the CH92 nib and that's because I still have the CH91...

Just looking at pictures on the internet, I like the blue of this Pelikan better than the CH92 blue, but I don't really like blue pens in general so wouldn't actually get either. I'm still halfheartedly thinking about getting the Amethyst, as I do like purple pens, but it'll probably sell out before I make up my mind!

I thought the frosted interior of the Amethyst M205 gave an intriguing new twist to the series, and it's a shame that this new version of the pale blue demonstrator doesn't followed suit. For me a silver crown isn't enough to make me bite. Instead I might even go for the M120 as it is such a good price at The Writing Desk.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
