Blue Upon The Plains Of Abraham - Noodler's

visvamitra

Recommended Posts

Plains of Abraham is a deep blue with a hint of purple tones. The shading is decent. The flow though is rather weak - it's got a thicker consistency than most of inks. It has the Noodler's signature bulletproof and eternal qualities for those of us who need such properties.

The name for this ink is inspired by the Seven Years War and the battle of The Plains of Abraham where the British and French battled for control of the land, which ultimately prompted the "British North America" affecting what Canada is today. In addition to his usual politically driven name and label, Noodler's creator added the saying "American Canadian Ink for Canada" to the label.

I really like the look of this one, even if it is very close to a lot of my other inks in that colour family. Might have to search...

Lovely review visvanitra.

I've just posted this elsewhere but thought it relevant here too:

. . . . this ink is what I call "a changeling".

Paper makes a massive difference, pens too.

I forgot about it in my Conklin and when I wrote with it a week or so later, a dark turquoise came out and stayed that way. Hmmmm.

I really like it's unpredictability.

This is the Salamander of blues for me. Murky, complex - although not so much its make up but in its behaviour.

Uh, okay, it's well behaved, is it? Then all the more reason to get it!.

Erm, how can I say this . . . it's as well behaved as any Noodler's Bulletproof.

I think in a daily use pen then no problems. If you leave this hanging around, unused, in a pen then perhaps a little lick will be needed to get things going

Ha, smells and taste like Noodler's 54th.

Nothing like as bitter as ESSRI or Akkerman's No10. They're like Stop 'n' Grow

Thanks for the review.

I made a special trip into downtown Toronto last summer, when I was going up to a symposium, just to get a bottle of this at Wonder Pens. I like the ink, but I have yet to find a pen that it flows well in -- it's really pretty dry. Which is a bit disappointing -- it's a great color.

I haven't had much of a flow issue with this ink in an Eco, xf nib. Well, I have an initial hard start. (eg. When using the pen first thing in the morning). But otherwise, this ink hasn't had any other issues.

I can't do dry inks. Nice color. Like a lighter 54th.

I haven't had any issues with this ink... but I also tend to have wet pens.

Love the color... one of my favorite Blues..

Bump as it's a topic of current interest, might help out.

And a demonstration of the excellent ink reviews we have archived on the FPN.

Might inspire others to take a crack at their own.

Lapis, you should own this ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Poured mine down the drain  It developed the same consistency as runny porridge. Didn't even dare use it in a mix. So disappointed. Two wonderful FPN memebers managed to get this from Canada, to Australia and then back to the UK for me when I fell in love with it.

God knows I don't need more blue inks. In fact I just packed away and banished 30 some-odd bottles that I rarely use to our storage room.

I really wanted to buy this ink if for no other reason than to support the idea of a Canada only ink. It's actually quite nice, and I think I'll get some use out of it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
