Blue Pearl - Diamine Shimmertastic Ink

Some time ago Diamine felt the urge to follow example of J. Herbin - they've decided to hit the market of glittering inks. The line of Shimmertastic inks premiered in 2015. Personally I dislike shimmering inks / inks with particles. I didn't expect to like this line. A friend of mine bought full line and sent me the whole bottles to review. I've tried them all. I don't like them but I'll review them. Maybe you'll like them more than me?

After strong punch from Diamine that offered ten colors I wonder with what 1670 ink J. Herbin will come this year?

Anyway there's ten inks in the line:

  1. Blue Lightning
  2. Blue Pearl
  3. Brandy Dazzle
  4. Golden Sands
  5. Magical Forest
  6. Night Sky
  7. Purple Pazzazz
  8. Red Luster
  9. Shimmering Seas
  10. Sparkling Shadows

Six with golden particles

And four with silver particles

BLUE PEARL

Blue Pearl has nice and deep color. I would like it it it didn't contain particles.

Blue Pearl was my choice to assuage curiosity about glittery inks - it was coming up to Christmas, I was weakened by the deluge of glitter falling out of every envelope... Like you, I believe I'd actively enjoy a glitter-free version. As it is, well, it does what it says, it's legible, and the pen didn't die, so - okay?

ETA: And of course, thank you for doing the review. Tsk; atrocious manners on my part. Sorry.

Great review and this one, along with Shimmering Seas are my favourites.

Am I just paranoid or what? I have J. Herbin chivor emerald but decided only to use it in pens that make use of converters rather than vintage pens with ink sacs. I figure I will know if they are properly cleaned, whereas an ink sac may be hiding something. Do you need to flush your pen after using a complete filling, any problem with clogging? With the Chivor emerald the gold flecks all settle to the bottom, what about the Blue Pearl, is there settling?

Beautiful blue.

For the #50shadesofbluechallenge (link to the hashtag on Instagram), a challenge over at the German PenExchange forum for July & August 2020, I inked up all my pens with all the 50+ blue inks I have. The snapshots might also be of interest to some here.

Diamine Shimmering Blue Pearl is a vivid mid-blue with silver shimmer particles.

I assume that my sample contained less than average shimmer, but still produced some fantastic glitter fun in a DIY modified Pilot Parallel Pen with a "blade" nib and also worked reliably in a Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with a juicy FA nib (original plastic feed not modded).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
