Akkerman #8 Diep-Duinwaterblauw

Akkerman is the line of inks from The Hague, Netherlands, said to be made by Diamine for them. They have the coolest ink bottles. And the ink inside those bottles is very good.

The is a thread that explains the names for the ink and their references, but this one I think is "Deep Dune water blue", but you'll have to find the thread to be sure.

This ink is actually very similar in color to the Thistle Ink powder that was going around the P.INKs and people ooo'd and ahhhh'd over. A better color than the Organics Studio Blue Crab LE. The ink is not water resistant at all, and with boring chromatography: blue with a hint of red.

The usual papers are MvL=Mohawk via Linen, Hij=Hammermill 28lb inkjet, TR=Tomoe River.

The ink does lean towards green somewhat, and the photos are not catching that. They are looking more middle blue, and that's not accurate. I tried to make adjustments, but things came out too light, or something that wasn't the way things were supposed to be.

As of this writing, the inks are available from Vanness, and Anderson Pens, though the latter you have to call or email, can't order through the web site.

I couldn't agree with you more on their bottles. I love them. I have a bottle of Park Pop Purple. It's a great color

You're reviewing some of my favourite inks this evening! Thanks for showing off another great ink. It is difficult to catch the green undertone but your second & fourth pics are quite close.

Thanks for the nice review. This is really a neat ink and I find that your drop on the paper towel is a sort of a certification of what I first saw up top... yes, a touch of green in any case but at the same time some red... Very interesting. Does it at least dry thoroughly or smudge like Diamine's Majestic Blue?

I don't find it to smudge on the papers I use, but I also rarely have that problem even with inks that others say smudge. The Mohawk is a cotton paper so a bit more absorbent.

Great review of a handsome looking ink.......

Have used several Diamine inks and like them.....

Been meaning to try out some Akkerman.....your review is tempting to actually do so...

:)

Thanks,

Thank you for your review (and the poem by Yeats). I had a sample of the Narcissus Blue that I liked, as well as the Parkpop Purple (which I may try to buy).

Great. Swell. Another ink for the short list. :wallbash:

Thanks for the review. And not....

I love this one as well. Along with the Zuiderpark Blauw-Groen #24 (which is a bit like R&K Verdigris). There are some wonderful inks in those gorgeous bottles - sadly I only have three of the large ones...

Great review. This one is my favourite of all Akkerman inks. It's a tricky one, though: not all pens are happy with it. It has given me grief in a Pilot Capless; a Parker 51 also had problems in the end (admittedly after remaining unused for a longish period); on the other hand, a Sheaffer Targa still works fine with Diep-duinwaterblauw.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
