Esterbrook Display Case And Nibs

Recommended Posts

I know some of you dislike ebay but there is an Esterbrook display case on ebay. The case comes with a selection of seventy NOS nibs. There are also some pens included. The item is titled "vintage esterbrook fountain pens". I wish i could buy it but i am sure that the price will quickly jump beyond what i can spend without getting a divorce or significantly reducing my life expectancy.

Normal disclaimer: I have nothing to do with this sale or the person selling it, just saw it today while avoiding grading papers. Hope i am not violating any rules here. Sorry if i am.

That is nice, but I'll stay with the Parker cases that I can afford...

I wasn't bidding on the case at all, nor the pens. Those 70 NOS nibs, however, are an entirely different matter.

Mine too. Someone must really want it.

It's interesting to see an item jump in $50 increments, and not inch up like some of these do.

I did not see past the case. Woow a boat load of nibs.

As of now [ when typing this ] the bid is at $610.00. I could swing at it, however I am in the

market for a new stove at this time and will buy one this weekend as mine died and I will spend about $650 - $700 for a new stove. I need it for Easter as I am the host.

So I will pass on this item.

And, it's still at a reasonable price for everything in the listing. If the one bidder stays in his pattern, I wouldn't be surprised to see it go to $700, and that would still be decent. Not great, but not bad.

Well as of now (2/25, about 5:45 PM EST) it's sold. Hammer went down at $610 US. Way too rich for my blood.

Wonder if anyone here got it. And if we'll shortly see a bunch of listings for nibs (and if any of them are on my "want list"...).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
