Rolf Thiel

This is the first of a series of post where i will discuss about People or Business who i have used and my view about their service. Please note, any comment on these posts will be my own opinion and i am not associated or affiliated with any of this sellers- I am just expressing my gratitude towards these people because I was extremely satisfied with their service and feel like talking about it- that is all.

i bought a Pelikan M150 couple of months ago from cultpens.com and it is a Fine. Beautiful pen- writes very smooth however the lines were bit too wet and thick for my then taste of fine FP lines (Thankfully I am growing of of it! )- did a little research and found that it is a common issue. But loved the pen so much so that decided to spend even more to get a Ef nib and came across Rolf Thiel on E-bay. His service was more than great, quick and received it with extra's!! (The order was only for a nib but it came with a pack of gummy bears, mints, and the whole thing was packed so neatly!)- He also sent me an e-mail with lots of useful information that any FP user will find useful. I am attaching few pictures of his mints and cards and i hope someone will find his service useful as i did. Highly recommended..

The mints must be a relatively recent addition. I bought some Lamy nibs from him a couple years ago and there were no mints.

But yeah, can't praise him and his excellent and timely communication enough!

I got my Pelikan M200 Café Crème from him last year and was more than pleased by the fast response (the pen took longer to go through Customs -- and then got sent to someplace in New England before getting shipped to Pittsburgh -- than it took for him to contact me with the tracking info and it to cross the Atlantic from Germany.

If I had the money, and he had a pen I wanted, I would definitely buy from him again -- it was cheaper for me to order the pen from him on Ebay than from any US seller, even with the added shipping costs. Although the crowns on my teeth were less than enthralled by the gummibears....

I just purchased a Pelikan M600 from him on Friday and really enjoyed his willingness to communicate with me. Whenever I need a German pen, I'm going to him first.

I've also bought from Rolf before and would buy much more from him if he didn't have the notices about adding VAT on his ebay listings for vintage items.

He's one of the Good Ones.

I've always come across his ebay listings and been confused by the statement that the VAT will be added for shipping to the EU. Is he listing his auctions at a price only for non-eu?

I've ordered a few things from Rolf and never had a problem with his service but for some reason he didn't include the gummy bears in my first few orders. Living in the US I was really looking forward to real German gummy bears.

I bought a Pelikan 100 nib to replace a broken one and Mr Missing-pen was very helpful in making sure I had the right nib and had correctly identified the pen. He always has a stock of Pelikan parts which is useful if, like me, you hang out around flea markets and have nibless or clipless or wrong-cap pens to sort out.

Too many pens, too little time!

Email him about the item. I bought ink from him and after emailing back and forth about items I purchased some pens and he just charged his price without the added shipping as listed on the bay

Same here. He took off roughly 30% by going this route.

I've also bought from him in the past. I would also add that he is an AD for the brands that he carries. Something to bear in mind.

Just bought a Lamy nib from Rolf via ebay, one or both of our post offices flattened the nib, Rolf graciously sent out a replacement. Great service.

All positive comments I have read about Rolf are true. Quick, kind, gummy bears, great Pelikanstuff, et cetera. Thanks to Rolf, I am now the happy owner of this ceramic pen holder. See you next time!

Oh, is that the yellow one Rolf had up on eBay recently? I was watching that listing.... But the large stands are generally too pricy for my budget :( (I could buy a large stand, or I could buy pens...). And truthfully, I like the small stands a little better -- but I'd consider buying one of the large stands if I could get one for a really good price. in one of the more interesting colors (yeah, right, like that's gonna happen... B)).

I couldn't not buy it, just couldn't.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
