Not so new. Here's an old thread. If you google "Jinhao 601" you can find other reviews.

I have 2 - both excellent writers. Very smooth. The grip is slightly textured and gives a very secure feel. Well balanced. Certainly worth the $8-10.

  • 10 months later...

Stumbled onto this thread after ordering three of these today, based on universal accolades. I picked up a matte black, the silver textured and a good looking black/brown/cream mock celluloid. I have numerous x250, x450 & 750 Jinhao pens. All are well worth the low investment with some being highly desirable writers. I think all are tunable with a judicious touch. What attracted me to the 601, in addition to the low cost and my solid experience with the brand is the knurled section that does not taper...should provide an excellent purchase (no pun intended).

Looking forward to these.

It will probably be better than the real thing or at least the new French made Diamond Rubbermead Sonnets. They are horrible tacky things whereas Jinhao seem to have pretty good stwndards of manufacturing quality. I just wish they would not put an 18k GP stamp on a steel nib: ridiculous and irritating.

I can advice you to buy the Jinhao 601.

It is an excellent pen!

Only thing with it is that the stock nib is too wide for me. I like my nibs fine, not medium-broad.

I have 2 Jinhao 601's. 1 has a nib which I got from the Jinhao 599 (safari clone, has a stock F nib). The other one has a 'Genius Iridium' nib. I came across these on eBay. Excellent nibs. Smooth out of the box, and quite cheap.

All in all: excellent pen. In my opinion the best Chinese pen there is.

Blackhorse, let us know what you think about the black/brown/cream mock celluloid Jinhao 601 -- that seems to be a new one.

Looks interesting. I already have the Baoer and Hero versions and enjoy writing with both of them. What the heck, I cannot not resist as Chinese pens are generally such a great bargain and most are workhorses. I will order one. Thanks for the recommendation!

I stand corrected.

What I should have said is: In my opinion, it is the best Chinese pen I have.

Ah, the Kaigelu 316. One day I'll buy one of those!

Bob,

Looks to me to be a printed texture on a metal ground, and on the caps the printing doesn't quite seem to register properly, see this sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/jinhao-601-brown-and-black-roller-ball-pen-new-free-shipping-/311771901502?hash=item48970dae3e:g:yCYAAOSwCypWnNEu

Not sure I like it. No. Sure I don't like it.

Regards,

Richard

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
