"if I Were King Of The Forest" ... The Domain Lion.

How is this for less than 99¢ including postage? The Domain Lion : name on nib, name on converter, lion and a ruby eye (not slippers) on the clip! Not a promo for the show of the symbol of felineocity.

All plastic, a very nice light weight and balance when posted. M nib, Writes well out of the ... well, errr ... bubble wrap. But for 99¢ and in my case 74¢, what the heck! There is a pattern of round repeat indents around the cap (8 indents around x 6 indents deep). May be for the visual interest of adding a light and shadow pattern somewhere on this rather plain body.

A very pleasant surprise! But to give The Wizard of Oz comparison one more shove: the orange color lacks 'courage'!

In the book it was silver shoes.... [Okey dokey, pedant rant switched off.] Now back to the matter at hand: the pen....

So, for 99¢, what sort of fill system are you getting? I'm presuming it's a c/c pen -- International Standard? Who makes it? Does it come in other colors (on my screen it looks more like egg yolk yellow than orange)? Size? Weight? Balance? Is that a faceted/molded section (like on a Lamy Safari or its knockoffs like Jinhao 599s) or just a trick of the light? Any issues with the sharp looking transition between the section and the barrel? And how much flex are you actually getting out of the nib?

Dear Inkstainedruth,

I am afraid I am the Henny Youngman of pen remarks - only one-liners!

The ill-orange number comes with a converter. I would guess a cart would work as well. The only name on the pen aside from 'Lion' is 'Domain". Domain.Lion seems to be a Chinese brand with many models available on ebay. Here is an up-scale (relatively) model:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-X-DOMAIN-LION-688-FINE-nib-fountain-pen-new-free-shipping-/141769612711

Size - shorter than really big, bigger than really short. I'd say it is a 38 regular but who wears suits nowadays? Weight - fighting in the welterweight division. Balance - good if not drinking. Faceted but still rolls, again it is the drinking problem,

I like that sharp transition, particularly in a 38 regular. It gets lost on big guys in XLs.

Now you take my pen ... please!

Dick

I found the ill-orange lacking in "courage". This is not true of the FUSCHIA Domain.Lion just received today:

And so in recognition of the FUSCHIA Domain.Lion's Courage , I award him the Triple Cross (*kiss*kiss* with the great Frank Morgan)...

I have this sweet li'l pen in pale green, and I really like it! It writes smoothly, my hand never gets tired holding it, and the size of the line is perfect, imho. I may pick up some more of these in other colors, I like it that much. Plus, I like the orange, but that fuchscia makes me want to hurl--I won't be picking up any of THAT color! :-) And if one gets lost or, dog forbid, stolen by some eedjit who doesn't realize just what a cheap pen it is, well, no biggie!

I'm glad someone actually did a little review on this. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who likes it :-).

I bought half a dozen back when. The cap and body split out after very little use so I don't see these as worth buying unless to remove the excellent nibs to use elsewhere.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
