Ldv Red Chalk (After Montblanc)

Two parts each of the following;

  • Platinum Pigment Rose Red
  • Organics Studio Mercury

to one part

  • Sailor Four Seasons Oku-Yama

The ink is stable but use of pigment requires more frequent and careful cleaning of pen parts - use at own risk.

I consider this to be a closer idea of Da Vinci's ink and is more red than the Montblanc original; however, if a closer match to Montblanc's still beautiful ink is required, one might try adding a half part of Diamine Sunset.

Interesting, thank you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

This is an interesting recipe.  I actually prefer just the combination of Platinum Pigment Rose Red and Organics Studio Mercury.  It seems the Mercury has been discontinued.  Is there some other ink that could be substituted and achieve a similar result?

Is there anything else to consider when matching up an ink to mix like this?  Is saturation an issue, or do I just find something similar-looking?

Just make it to the color you like. It doesn't have to be 100% exact. As a personal preference I would never mix pigment inks with regular dye inks so I would need to find something other than the Platinum Pigment Rose Red that was similar looking.

Sorry, I didn't specify my interest in this recipe.  I'm looking for a water-resistant red ink which has a pleasing color.  I find Platinum Pigment Ink Rose Red too pinky, so I'm looking for some way to change it.

It became confused because this old thread is about making an ink that looks like Montblanc LDV Red Chalk. It happened to contain PP Rose Red. Now you've posted your own thread about what you are looking to find maybe you will get an option that works for you. :)

      @Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

      These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

      Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
