Help Me Fill The Gaps In My Ink Collection

Hi everyone,

This will probably be the strangest question of the year so far. I'm in the mood for buying more ink. I live in New Zealand, so ordering inks from overseas is a rather rare event.

My problem is that I can't think of enough to fill up my order! I'll be getting one of the Noodler's blacks, Apache Sunset and a highlighter ink of some sort.

Inks I currently have are:

All of the Montblancs:

- Mystery Black

- Midnight Blue (IG)

- Oyster Grey

- Royal Blue

- Irish Green

- Lavender Purple

- Burgundy Red

- Toffee Brown

Iroshizuku:

- Tsuki Yo

- Kosumosu

- Chiku Rin

Akkerman:

- Passage Blauw

- Shocking Blue

- Oranje Boven

J. Herbin:

- Violette Pensee

- Emerald of Chivor

Rohrer & Klinger:

- Scabiosa

- Alt-Goldgrun

Diamine Registrar's

Baystate Blue

Lamy Turquoise

Can anyone think of some good additions to my little collection?

Hi Fehefarx...

I'm a big fan of the Diamine manufactured Deep Dark inks that Cult Pens (UK) sells...i.e. Deep Dark Brown, Deep Dark Blue, etc.

Also consider the new Australian ink series by Blackstone..."Colours of Australia"... all well saturated, well behaved and very reasonably priced.

Any inks from the the Sailor Jentle line. Oku-yama is nice. Souten is not bad too.

Noodler's General of the Armies. I like the color changing for this ink.

Do you have any other suggestions from the Jentle line? I think I have colours which are very similar to those two already.

Well, you appear to have at least one of each of the Essentials: black, blue-black, purple/violet, blue, green, and brown. So, as long as you have fade-resistant inks in each of those colors, you're fine. You also have more than one markup color (red, orange, bright turquoise, pink), where fade resistance is less important.

Tokiwa-matsu and Oku-Yama are really nice inks.

Also Sei-boku from their nano line is a brilliant ink.

Arkanabar, that's my problem! I can't think of where to go next :/

This may make me a heretic amongs a pack of enablers, but I'd say there's nothing wrong with not buying more right now.

Or you could say I'm enabling you in your okayness.

Personally, I was underwhelmed with Apache Sunset; it's quite dry. I much prefer Diamine Autumn Oak for almost identical color and shading while much wetter and smoother.

Huge fan of R&K Cassia for flow and saturation, but it might be too close to Violette Pensee for you.

Iroshizuku Yama-budo is one of my favorites. Again, great flow, and it's a unique color, almost the tone of a burgundy, with the brightness of a rose.

Diamine Oxblood is another lusciously flowing ink with great saturation; and aptly named. A favorite and a color you are lacking.

Lastly, I'd suggest a turquoise for your collection; Diamine Havasu Turquoise and Noodler's Navajo Turqoise are great.

You need KWZI IG Gummiberry. It's an Irongall violet that darkens beautifully.

One of the Edelsteins perhaps? There seems to be an opening for the Garnet or Turmeline in your line up...or Amethyst if you can find any.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Amber,

for a moment I thought YOU had started this topic...gave me a laugh, since if there's one person on the face of the earth who does NOT have a gap in their collection that person would be you...

best,

My recommendations would include the following.

Diamine:

ASA Blue

Chocolate Brown

Amazing Amethyst

Visconti:

Blue

Sheaffer:

Turquoise

Blue

Pelikan 4001:

Black

Turquoise

Waterman:

Serenity Blue

Inspired Blue

Absolute Brown

Additionally Chesterfield Inks, which are re-branded Diamine inks, are excellent and many to choose from by Noodlers. However, Noodlers should be researched as some have their quirks.
