Sadly, one bottle of Sapphire, with shipping to AUS, comes to about AU$100. :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

I know tough question to answer, but which one is the star color, any idea?

Personal opinion: sapphire and piano mahogany. 4B is a nice blue-black as well.

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

Can someone tell me why these inks are worth 2 to 4 times the price of other inks on the market? I'm not being facetious, just a newbie with a question.

IMO...4B & Tears of a Clown...Silent Night a close runner up.

Hard to match colors, sheen, good performance- but whether they're worth the leap in price...I've stopped buying until the speculators move on to another brand.

Perhaps if you think of these inks as similar to the difference between Toyota / Lexus, Nissan / Infinity, or Honda / Acura automobiles? All the standard cars are perfectly fine & respectable models BUT the "top of the line" models made by the same manufacturers suggest the same attributes BUT with enhanced features making them "worth" the cost of additional price. I like the Sailor "basic line" of inks but it was the enhanced color's available that prompted me to spend the extra money on the "speciality" inks from Sailor. I bought a dozen of them & am glad I had the chance to experience them before the price increases made them no longer of interest to me. If I hadn't had the ones I purchased perhaps I would be intrigued enough to purchase at the higher cost; but I have so I am happy to explore "other inks" available @ more reasonable price.

I happily drive an 11 year old Toyota & because I have owned a Range Rover in the past I chose to replace it with a car that cost almost 90%less! The maintenance of the "luxury car" was not worth the cost to me when I was choosing a new car. The difference in the cost of a bottle of ink is not great enough to cause me not to try it when it was only a couple of times higher but when it rose in cost & availability I chose to "give it a rest." Everyone's financial situation is different so if cost is "no object" then these inks are "surely worth the cost."

No, they're not worth 4 times the price, but 2 times is more reasonable. I have a few Kobe and Bungbox inks, and they are wonderful inks. For example, the 4B looks similar to other blue-black inks, such as Diamine Blue-Black, but it has that extra bit of flow, color saturation, and sheen that the Diamine BB lacks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
