"new" Safari And Al-Star Colours For 2016

Next year's Lamy product line-up sees the re-introduction of a couple of new-old favourites:

Apple Green Safari (model 13)

Blue/Green Al-Star (model 32)

http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/lamy/alstar_32_fp.jpg

Both these pens were previously issued as annual colours: the Apple Green Safari in 2012 and the Al-Star Blue/Green in 2014. However, Lamy does sometimes re-issue annual colours as regular edition pens, most recently with the 2009 Pink Safari that came back in 2014 (with a revised cap).

Happy writing,

Martin

Funny, I was thinking the opposite (and the Safari only "meh" at that).

I'm going to hold out for the Purple Safari and see if it's a purple that I can tolerate -- I like the color of the purple Al-Star, but I picked up one at OPS and the corners on that triangular grip are sharp (as in "owwy" sharp...).

Nice! I've wanted that Blue/Green Al-Star since I first saw it earlier this year. Apple Green Safari looks good too, but I think I'll skip that and buy the purple 2016 Safari instead, unless it turns out to be ugly...

Well the Blue-Green is much better looking than the "canned peas green" one posted the other day, but I've already got 2 Blue-Green Al Stars. :-(

So not only am I not interested in another, I'm afraid the value of mine will tank.

I wonder if they will release the purple in the roller ball as well?

Yes, fountain pen, roller and ballpoint

Warm greetings Martin and Anna : ) Have (with many others) been cheerfully waiting for your annual announcement.

(for fountainpen newbies, happy packages arrive with Safari's in a variety of nib configurations, and ink options - from The Writing Desk: )

wondering if there's yet another surprise per another another thread? or was that a promotional consideration that didn't pan out?

Bluegreen wasn't that popular last time around here. My local pen shop usually runs out of special editions within about 6-9 months but they still had it a few months ago. Copperorange flew out the door

Why can't they come up with a new color? I mean, with millions of colors technically possible, why re-issue these and the same general color family too (green)?

My thoughts exactly, and wouldn't a marbled effect look stunning in its individuality ?

I still think they should have a "build your own custom Lamy".

Converse does it with their Chucks All Stars, (heh, accidental word play).

You pick out what body color, cap color, clip color, and accent color, all online. Then, presto! Your dream pen shows up a few weeks later.

I'm glad for both coming back. I really liked the blue-green and had completely missed the apple green.

Same here. I'm a newcomer to Lamy as I prefer a more classic-looking pen, but the swappable nibs really sold me on the Safari & Al-Star. I bought a neon lime recently because no other green was available, but I will definitely be getting both of these as well as the purple Safari.

I agree, Lamy has great color selection, but branch out. The Al Star and Safari lines were meant to be cheaper and fun and exciting - use that!

Yes, even phones have that option with Moto Maker. It'd be nice to see!

Interesting idea. One of the first Safaris I saw that I actually thought was attractive was a blue one with a yellow clip. I believe it was to commemorate the anniversary of Sweden's founding, so the colors were to match the Swedish flag. There was a thread about it several years ago. It might be fun to take that yellow colored clip and stick it on one of the new purple ones....

Just offer all the usual main colors, a handful of clip colors, and maybe 3 accent colors.

People would go nuts making their dream pen, and Lamy can charge a modest premium for that option.

They could do it with Al Stars or Safaris.

I have both pens the OP mentioned. I like the Apple Green. I think, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the colors are being added to the regular line. New special edition colors should still come out. It seems like the Al-Star color was already shown as a yellow-green looking color.

If I've misunderstood what this thread is about, please forgive me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
