Hello From Ne Ohio

Hello FPN!

I am a fountain pen newbie, and I'm excited to join this community of writing enthusiasts. I am a writer of fiction novels, a blogger, and a homeschooling mom of 3. I got my oldest hooked on ink, too! LOL

We have spent many hours on YouTube, and fell in love with the Goulets. Now I'm looking for more, and we missed the Ohio Pen Show. So if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!!!

We are looking for a store that actually has a selection of pens to see, sample, etc.

Please advise!

TIA

~Deanna~

Welcome, Deanna !

Which fountain pen do you use for daily writing ? Do your kids have their own fps ?

Hello Deanna,

I'm also from Northeast Ohio. I haven't found a store with fountain pens, other than a small selection at Staples or Office Max. I've started searching at garage sales and learned to re-sac vintage pens. It's fun!

Greetings from Pittsburgh!

Not sure about NE Ohio, but there's a couple of places in Columbus, IIRC. One is a stationery store along the main drag in Short North; the other an actual pen shop (some new, some vintage) but is kinda an odd place (I went in there last year on my way to the Ohio Pen Show, and the guy in the store was wearing a straw boater -- and is also really opinionated...).

YMMV

Welcome!

More people from NEO than I realized. Maybe this club idea can actually happen? Thanks @deannasjoy for starting that thread in the clubs forum!

Cheers.

My ink-swap post(s) become out of date eventually. My signature is always current. If you want to swap some ink, here's what I have: Diamine: Ancient Copper, Oxblood, Poppy Red, Red Dragon, Sherwood Green; Iroshizuku: Kon-peki, Ku-jaku, Take-sumi; Noodlers: 54th Mass, BSB, Purple Martin, X-Feather, Widow Maker; Private Reserve: Blue Suede. I'm partial to highly saturated inks, but am open to suggestions. PM if interested.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
