Myles Standish Blue

I will start with the fact that I do not care for this ink, and the only reason I bought it was the fact that it was a limited run. With that out of the way, it's not a terrible ink. It has all the qualities I think one would look for; waterproofness(or close to it), flows decent enough, and it cleans out of your pen relatively easy. I...I just don't like the color, I don't care for powdery blues

Close up of the little shading, that really only comes out if you print.

Looks a little like Sheaffer Blue-Black. I have been using Sheaffer BB recently and enjoy it immensely.

Don't have it, but have seen it. Reminds me a little of Diamine China Blue.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Thanks for the review.

Myles Standish isn't my favorite blue, but the color is starting to grow on me. While not a shining ink, it's got a pinkish undertone to it that makes it a little more subtle. It's relatively well behaved (well, until the Charlie eyedropper pen it's in gets too low -- then it gets drippy...). Its water resistance makes me feel comfortable using it for addressing envelopes and signing checks, too.

  • 1 year later...

I just opened my bottle and it's beautiful and not blue black at all. I'll post images later today or tomorrow.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I don't like it either and worse off IMO the powdery-ness would be okay if there was more blue and less blue-black in it, as said above for D's China Blue. Or in R&K's Porcelain Blue-White.

I wonder if anyone who has their old "blue-black" bottles could try the ink now. Is it still blue-black or is it this color? Someone send me a sample so I'll have to try it out.

You want a sample of the Blue-Black or of my blue?

Amber's blue looks more like MB's BMW (I think).

Ho ho ho

That's what I thought.

I received a sample of this ink as part of the inky swap. But I don't know which version it is. My guess is it's like yours because it doesn't look like a blue-black in the vial. I'm about to dive into seven Noodler's LE samples this coming week. I'll put Miles Standish right at the top of the list.

Yes, that's mine. I was able to acquire two bottles. That sample is from the second bottle. Sinistral1 prepared all the samples. I opened the bottle that I kept here in Las Vegas. Please let me know how it looks. If it makes any difference, I did shake the ink.

When I get home next weekend I will dig out my bottle and ink up a pen with it. Because what amberleadavis posted is showing up on my screen as a totally different color. My bottle is more like what Chudgins50 originally posted a year ago (only I think my batch is a little more saturated).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
