Thank you for the great review. ... and yes, there is a little breathing hole just under the bottom part of the clip. All the years I did not know about something like that. :)

Great review. Just found the hole in my 146 cap under the clip ball.

I remember when I took my 146 to the local Montblanc Boutique to have it's nib exchanged shortly after I purchased it, the manager took a very quick look at the cap and pronounced it to be a genuine Montblanc. Wonder if he was looking for the hole to help confirm it?

Thank you.

My old 146 doesn't seem to have a breather hole under the clip ball

Great review, and funny nobdy has ever noticed the breathing hole before!

I was happy to hear that last year MontBlanc starting to produce the 149 with different colors for the details.

Since a month they also have the platinum-plated details, my personal favorite.

Thank you and I do agree that I would have skipped it in case it was under the clip ball.

The platinum one also looks amazing, though I personally prefer the red gold shade.

I do not think (others can correct me on this), for a new (2015 onwards) MB pen, the cap band comes with Pix inscribed on it.

Pix is more of a hallmark found on the underside of the clip. Linked post here, some with Pix on cap band.

For this, a relative new 149, it doesn't as far as I remember, but it does mention metal & Germany on the underside. Thanks!

My 149 Rose gold bought in 2015 does not have Pix anywhere on the pen.

Better late than never :)

think better to ask the mb customer service, they do seem to have a timeline based trademarking, they will be the best people to answer!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
