Kobe (神戸市 Kōbe-shi) is the sixth-largest city in Japan and is the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture. It is located on the southern side of the main island of Honshū, on the north shore of Osaka Bayand about 30 km (19 mi) west of Osaka. With a population around 1.5 million, the city is part of the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area along with Osaka and Kyoto. Its name comes from "kanbe" (神戸), an archaic title for supporters of the city's Ikuta Shrine. Kobe became one of Japan's 17 designated cities in 1956.

Kobe is famous for its shirines and nioce architecture but among fountain pen and ink afficionados the name Kobe cause increased heart-rate. The city is a home of Nagasawa-Kobe stationery shop that offers incredible lione of more than fifty inks made by Sailor.

My master - plan is to prepare comparison of full line of Nagasawa-Kobe inks. Not an easy task as they're not the most obtainable inks on the market, but hopefully I'll manage to do it :)

At the moment Nagasawa-Kobe offers 52 inks:

Kaikyo Blue is dark and stronly saturated Blue/black with strong sheen. Although I'm not this color range enthusiast I enjoy this one.

Another great review. I love this ink - the colour is beautiful and it has incredible sheen. Hope you can see it in this quick photo........

Great shot. I'm confused by two names :) On Cool - Japan chart irt's called Kaikyo but on others Sea Strait Blue. Also East Asia Black is called Toa Black in some places.

The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge spans the Akashi Strait, and is part of the Kobe Expressway. There's a picture of the bridge over the Strait on the bottle.

What a beautiful blue black ink. Looks like Sailor Kobe's response to Pilot's Iro Shin Kai, assuming i have my issue chronology right :)

My first thoughts, too, when I bought it.

I'm confused by two names

It's Sailor Jentle Nagasawa Pen Style Kobe Ink Story no.7, Kaikyo (Sea Strait) Blue. I'm not sure why it's confusing... ;)

Really nice.

This looks a lot like one of my faves, Noodler's Blue Upon The Plains of Abraham (I literally just filled my Conklin with some a minute ago).

migo984, any chance of a side by side ?

I was just thinking the same thing.... Because I was looking at the scans going "Hmm. More of a blue-grey than a blue-black...."

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I don't see it as either :-) Definitely not blue-grey. I'll do a match as per Tas' request and will add Shin-Kai too.

This is one I think I will buy. I love blue blacks and the sheen really sets this apart. Thanks for the review.

Any water resistance??

Great review! It is an unusual color. I'm not sure whether I like it or not. It might grow on me.

You did me in. I sent an email to Atsu.

What? Vis is an enabler? I'm shocked!

:P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
