Kobe (神戸市 Kōbe-shi) is the sixth-largest city in Japan and is the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture. It is located on the southern side of the main island of Honshū, on the north shore of Osaka Bayand about 30 km (19 mi) west of Osaka. With a population around 1.5 million, the city is part of the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area along with Osaka and Kyoto. Its name comes from "kanbe" (神戸), an archaic title for supporters of the city's Ikuta Shrine. Kobe became one of Japan's 17 designated cities in 1956.

Kobe is famous for its shirines and nioce architecture but among fountain pen and ink afficionados the name Kobe cause increased heart-rate. The city is a home of Nagasawa-Kobe stationery shop that offers incredible lione of more than fifty inks made by Sailor.

My master - plan is to prepare comparison of full line of Nagasawa-Kobe inks. Not an easy task as they're not the most obtainable inks on the market, but hopefully I'll manage to do it :)

At the moment Nagasawa-Kobe offers 52 inks:

Thank you Cyber6 for a sample :)

I used to have Arima Amber bottle of it but then I sold it. I don't know why. I always liked the color. I don't recall well the situation. Maybe someone drugged me and it's happened while in altered state of consciousness?

Thanks for the review. I rather like it.

Where can one find these inks for sale in the US? (if there even is a place)

For a time, Vanness Pens had them. Now, they've only got four in stock. Otherwise, your best bet is probably to get them from Cool-Japan on eBay.

I recall sporting a large amber ring in this color in my youth. Loved it, but I'm not sure I love it in ink form.

Fair enough... I google up "Amber".. and although 90% was the more yellow type (the one I am more familiar with).. there were several with this color.

You should see Dominican Blue Amber--it's rare, but beautiful.

Ah, this ink has made me nostalgic. Maybe I'll buy it after all.

I may be going nuts, but this ink almost looks pink to me. Brain? What's wrong with you?

Well now that is an interesting... amber. I like browns, though. If I could have tens of browns, it'd be cool to write a journal using all of them.

Hmm. This one is interesting. But it looks a bit like Diamine Terra Cotta and Diamine Ochre. So I think I can pass.

Thanks for the review, though.

I finally got to see it in person - it's only blue under certain UV light, but then, I'd be blue too.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Just purchased a bottle, and I really enjoy this ink and this color. There is a richness that goes beyond the surface color. A great ink for those of us who love the warm spectrum of colors.

Jup, I think one has to judge this colour be seeing it. On the screen it shows an interesting shading and light sheen but for me it looks somehow flat and dry. The hue on the inkwell cap seems very promising to me... Thank you for your review.

I love how the amber-brown color washes away to leave a subtle gray underneath.

Also thank you for satisfying my curiosity about this series of ink. The only other reviews I've found are done by Japanese bloggers, but they don't post many pictures, and these are not very large so I can't see the colors well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
