Weight Variation Among Montblanc 149 Pens

Dear Members,

I am sorry if this question has been made before, and if this is the case, please redirect me to the pertinent thread or post.

I have two Montblancs 149: (i) a late 80's (Germany in the clip) with an F pen that weighs around 31 g with a plastic piston mechanism and; (ii) an older one, possibly 70's or 80's (W-Germany in the clip) that weighs 37 g and has a BB pen and a metal piston mechanism. Both weights include the cap. Does someone could tell me if this 6 g difference in total weight are expected?

Thanks!

Brass grads where you can see the brass are later, like in the 1990s. Since the clip is W. GERMANY the pen is either from the transition period in 1991-92 or the body was road at some point. Your first poem is probably older.

Anyhow, the exposed brass passion screw pens seemed noticeably heavier to me so your weight difference seems reasonable.

Thanks jar and zaddick. This makes sense. It is quite possible that the "older one" saw a body replacement before I bought it recently. These pens are addictive...

Yes. I went from 0 to about 12 149s before I know what happened. I am slowly working my way back to 5. i especially like the pens made before the 1980s.

Hi zaddick, I did stop at 2 but would not mind one or two more with different nibs than my other two... I also have Two MB Noblesse frome the 70's that I like but almost do not use and will receive a NOS Dostoevsky (M nib) pretty soon... I hope I like it.

The Dostoevsky is a nice pen. I like the very subtle design. I hope you will enjoy it.

My last 149 weighed 68.62g un inked..........ok it was a solid gold one :) Hey and that's a light weight compared to the Marlene Dietrich LE in silver which is 81.42g without cartridge or convertor fitted. So much for it being a 'ladies' pen.....

Pen Nut, Looks like pens are getting heavier & bigger over time or am I wrong? When the Dostoevsky arrives, I will post what I think about it. I just hope its (M) nib has some flex to match the ethos the pen tries to convey...

Editing previous post:

Just got the MB WE Dostoevsky. Throroughly rinsed and inked (what a nice working piston!), I took it to paper. It seats easy and well balanced in the hand. It has a nice, well proportioned, flex, 18K gold nib that goes from <M to >B on down strokes quite easy and moves well up and down and sideways on different angles. In sum, at work, this nib&pen combination has a good amount of vintage feeling to it, which matches well its early XXth century concept... and the pen is sooo nice to behold, almost as long as a 149, but slender (you all know this, anyway). But it may need some fine tunning to become an astonishing writing instrument. A keeper...

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
