Lamy 2000 (Massdrop) Already Inked?

Just opened a Lamy 2000 ordered on MassDrop...began my usual "new pen pre-ink cleaning"...and was surprised to find traces of blue ink coming out.

Is this normal? Does Lamy pre-ink pistons to confirm they work (then not quite get all the old ink rinsed away)? Seems odd.

Why are there fourteen samples of dark plum ink on my desk? Because I still haven't found the right shade.

Is that a problem...??? : : : sigh : : :

Update: Great. Finally found one I love (Lamy Dark Lilac) but I can't get more. Ah, life in my inky world....

It's normal. They test them all.

Thanks, Glenn. Until now, all my Lamys have been cart/coverters, which is why this perplexed me.

Yet again, the wonderful wisdom of fellow FPNers shines through. :notworthy1:

Yes, I was also made aware that Lamy test every 2000 with blue ink. On the other hand, you would think they might clean it out afterwards.

Do you think they leave the ink traces to show that they've tested the pen?

It does seem strange - they must have confidence ink their ink not causing problems to the feed etc.

Indeed they test their pens... although we should ask what is that they test, I've had to adjust every Lamy 2000 I have bought.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
